No its not you it is difficult to meet like minded people it will be easier for you with children be patient it will happen. Although from my perspective be careful what you post on here though as you will get a slamming for it. I know from past posts regarding myself and the friendship thing.

I've stopped being careful as you put it Elfie, although still at lads p*** taking banter mode, you can tell the ones who've never played team sports and aren't used to constant ribbing, people pussy foot around lovey dovey. Somebody yesterday though mentioned a great feature that is available on this forum so you won't see their comments and they won't see yours!!

I've never made 'instant' friends - the friendships I've had throughout my life are ones that have grown and developed over time. Some of my closest friends I met in the UK were via the children, when we moved to Aus they were a little older, walked to school together and you miss that opportunity in the play ground. I found inviting kids over, mums would drop them off and asking the mum is she'd like to stay for a coffee ... small steps.

We have some friends here that have become our family, but it took awhile.

We have been here three years and haven't made any friends outside of work colleagues. Beginning to think it is us  We are a married couple from the UK (hubby originally from South Africa) with grown up children overseas. Would love to get to know other couples or ladies wanting a shopping or coffee mate. 

Hi Bev what area are you living

I did the same but I would imagine if you come over with no kids or aren't socially very good it could be quite difficult. I'm quite lucky I will talk to anyone, made my best friend in Canada in the line at McDonalds. My best friends here when I volunteered in the kids school canteen. If you're not that way inclined it must be hard.

Hey everyone,

I probably should update on the comment I started!! Things are getting a little easier. We find it tough as the people we meet don't have kids and we have a 16 month old!! Ive been speaking to a couple of people on her and meeting up with them soon. We seem to be making some kind of leads, just following them up as we don't get time!! If anyone in Mandurah wants to meet a couple who like a beer or two and have a mad toddler, feel free to PM me!!!

Mike

Hey, my family and I (hubby, kids 8 +6) are moving somewhere in Perth region summer 2017! If ur still about then, we'll meet with u, my hubby loves a beer, really into his football and rugby (Tottenham and leics tigers) me I love my running.

We prev lived in moora 2012-2013. We made friends, but the place was too rural for us. We r emigrating again but going nearer Perth. We r un decided to where, as figure when were land we will decide then. Lol x

I think it really depends on the environment you are moving into. Personally I have enough friends and don't have time or energy for more. Not that I'm not friendly. Just not too friendly. But if you move somewhere with lots of other migrants, you are bound to get more friends. Most of our friends are from when we had young kids. That's when your life changes, and you are looking for like minded people. Many people have friends from high school. Same thing.

When do u hope to be flying out? Have u booked flights yet?

We emigrated back in 2012, Hubby's half brother lives in moora, so we went there. I had been before, so knew what it was like. Hubby just didn't settle well, so we returned 12mths later. Come back to UK to realise grass isn't greener here! So decided to head back but nearer Perth. Hoping for nor as I love joondalup and the surrounding area, but we will look round first to double make sure, lol.

I know I wish I used this forum more the first time! Don't know y I didn't! Lol. Its so helpful and everyone is great. Just gotta get the visa lodged and the waiting game begins. Lol.

Hope it all goes well for u? Do u have work lined up?

Thanks for reply

Em x

Not really, a lot were just neighbour's that became very good friends - was on Skype to a couple who were some of our best friends who we met when we moved house in Leicester. Here, I couldn't even tell you the names of my neighbours.

I knocked on our neighbours door on 3 separate occasions when we moved in and got no answer. I ended up writing a letter and introducing ourselves that way and said if you want to meet us it would be no problem. Anyway I was sat in the garden one day and he shouted over, I ended up going out for a chat and he's a nice bloke. He told me his partner was home when i knocked but she doesn't like answering the door at any time of the day ever since 4 or 5 people tried breaking into her home that she now lets out. We text each other now and then when something is going on in the road or police are at a house around the corner (regulars) but apart from that we only see each other when we arrive home at the same time. Most people get home, into their electric garages, through personnel door, into house and don't have to see anyone.

I sometimes wonder if people would have a different experience by simply moving suburbs.

I think so. We pretty much keep to ourselves (our choice) but have a good relationship with neighbours, who are happy to take in mail/watch house whilst away, notes are posted if someone is having a party and there's going to be extra cars/noise, There's a street part at christmas.
