Is it hard making friends, or is it us!!!!

Hi Ed and Jen.

Fully understand how you feel, we had good and bad start to our life here. But you know what, I've realised something and that is to just move on get over it and chalk it up to experience. We've been here just over 8 years and we're realising you don't need an extensive circle of friends. We have a handful, and some we've only recently made and some we've known since we arrived. We don't live in each other's pockets we have a laugh when we do meet up whether that's for drinks coffee or BBQ or just bumping into each other at the shops. But the conclusion we have come to is that you have to learn from whatever life throws at you. It will happen you just have to go with it.

I used to worry about it being my fault, people being nasty. I've now realised its not me it's them. It happens a lot, and I've never worked out why.

Anyway I wish you all the best, life here is great as you know, and Kinross is a pretty good place to live too

Jane

I never had a massive circle of friends but a lot of acquaintances, here I have a handful of friends and perhaps because i'm older, I find I don't need the acquaintances anymore. I still have them and would call them friends, but my close friends are really like family. I've just lost my dad and will be having to make the trip to the UK to sort out the funeral, it's these friends that have rallied round, will look after my young adults, bring meals, make sure they get to where they need to be and have showered us with love and support.

We have been here just over 15 months now, hasnt got easier, but living in Paradise justifies the move....

Anybody fancy meeting up NOR in late March?, Hillaries or Mullalloo beach hotel, open to other suggestions, could do couples or families.

Message me if your interested and we can agree a date and location and then publish for others to join us.

My cousin has been in Melbourne for about a year and my Aunt said that she and her family were also finding it difficult making friends and the have found that the opportunities they had in England to make friends just weren't there. She gave the examples of waiting for her son to finish school and in the UK, the parents would be out of there cars and would wait together and they would chat and get to know each in the UK, whereas in Melbourne, the parents just waited in their cars. My cousins son plays a lot of sport and has joined a number of teams but there doesn't seem to be much meeting up of the players at anywhere other than practice or matches and he's struggled to make friends too (he's 12). Have you guys found this too?

We have been in Perth for 3yrs, I'm from the UK and my partner is from NZ, I have an 18yr old son, we have found it quite difficult to make friends, our neighbours keep to themselves and we both travel quite far to work, so we aren't local to any work colleagues.so if anyone would like to have a coffee (I actually don't mind Dome) be great to have a chat
