shelz Posted April 5, 2015 Report Share Posted April 5, 2015 Hello, Would like to hear from anyone who is employed by WA government really as a nurse - We are flying out at the end of November and hopefully would be great to secure a job prior to leaving as a community nurse. When would anyone consider applying to a 'pool' for community nurse as advetised on their website - ideally would be looking to start beginning of January 2016. Also could anyone advise once started employment when you expect to be paid by them - end of the month you have worked? ali Posted April 5, 2015 Report Share Posted April 5, 2015 Are you talking about working in public hospitals? Being successful to a pool doesn't actually guarantee you a job as such. If successful to a pool it means that 'if' a suitable job comes up then they will look at the pool for the most appropriate person in the pool to fill that vacancy. If candidates are ranked (not all pools will do this depending on how big the recruitment is), then the vacancy is offered in order of ranking. Do ask how long the pool lasts (some last only 6 months). Also, check the advertisement if it says that preference is given to Citizens and PR holders - this will mean that sponsorship may be more difficult to obtain. In Public Health you get paid every 2 weeks. If you already have your visa and are planning to come out to Aus in November, I would start applying now, the process isn't always a quick one. Do consider though, that you might have to take a step back to move forward. Thank you Ali, I would be looking at working within the community i suspect from a health centre or similiar to UK - but I am just assuming this. I have applied for 189 visa and just waiting for CO, hence looking for jobs on the WA.gov site that match my current role and experience in the UK. My worry is that worse case and I dont secure a community nurse job I think my options to work in the hospitals would be slim as I have always completed community/public health/school health work post graduation - and of course the salary isn't great for starting again and family would be reliant on me securing a well matched role in Oz. Its so nerve wreaking going somewhere new without a job to go to! Only have limited funds - i guess worse case we will end up in a tent on the beach? Pressures on! They are private and don't advertise jobs on the department of health site but might have suitable roles for you. i have taken a leap back from associate director of nursing to a ward nurse post. I know in MH, I was taken aback that a lot of the resources such as psychology, drug/alcohol services etc., are provided either privately or by NGO's and that what I'd thought of as district nursing roles were provided by silver chain Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
shelz Posted April 9, 2015 Author Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for the advice ladies :-) I think I will start on updating my CV this weekend and I have already completed my person spec for the community nurse pool. I previously applied to a simiar pool and was approached but because I wasnt planning on landing down in the next 6 months said that I would not be put forward for any positions as I was unsure on timescales. At least I have a time scale now though :-) Once I have submitted then I will look at the other private services to see what they may be able to offer and can contact Silver Chain and St John of God. So much to organise....especially when you not sure what area would be best to live and then depends what area might end up working in. Obviously if pay day is a couple of days after you start you may have missed the payroll and have to wait a little longer than 2 weeks. Why don't you ask them? I'm sure HR will confirm.
