South facing back garden

Recommended Posts

Hi

does a south facing back garden make as much of an impact on light like a North facing one does in the UK?

For instance does it impact and shade the pool area and garden area? I have read mixed reports online so keen to hear from Perth people who have/had a south facing back garden

It depends where you live. We are near the beach so a south or South-west facing garden can get windy. Personally I would consider the direction any wind will come from when considering a property and whether the areas you want will be protected from the wind. You can always shade areas such as a pool with shade sails if you need to.

Thanks

yes it is a beach suburb we are looking at. I'm not bothered about the wind at all I just don't want a dull/shaded garden area

We looked at some lovely houses with stunning views overlooking the dunes and beach but all of them had enclosed patios and we were also told furniture on balconies had damaged the ceilings as they had been picked up in the wind during a storm. We ended up buying a property which was more protected from the wind (a hill of houses to the south) and overlooking a park to the west, with our main patio areas and pool to the East and North/East. It can get hot around the pool area as we don't have any shade but our patio areas are under cover and we're grateful when it gets a bit windy we can still sit outside.
