KatieLou
Hi All, I visited Perth recently and used the time to visit some nursery's for my little girl. I fell in love with one but until we know where we will be living we cant commit to a nursery. What i found with some was that once my LG is in kindy (Jan 2016) they still charge near enough a full days fee for her to attend before and after school which at $85 a day adds up. Plus they don't all offer the alternate days as kindy is usually 2 days one week and 3 the next so we would have to pay for 3 days each week plus OSH care. Has anyone living in Perth had an au pair? Im wondering if this would be better as it will be more flexible and tailored to our needs. The only thing i worry about is what my LG would get from it educationally? Any help on this would be great? KatieLou
ali
I would say that your child would get limited benefit educationally as an au pair is really to provide care and light household duties such as cooking etc., not education. An Au Pair is someone who temporarily becomes part of your family and generally live in, you provide food, board and pocket money Guidelines for Aus are 35 hours per week and pocket money of $150 - $250 pw on a website I looked at
hibster76
There are quite a few children at my daughters Kindy who are dropped off and/or collected by an au pair.
KatieLou
Thank you for your replies. I'm not sure what to do for the best. An Au Pair would help us financially starting out and would give us the flexibility but i dont want my LG to lose the routine and educational benefit of being in childcare. Hmm.....got a lot to think about x
lozzachino
Check out http://www.smartaupairs.com.au for more info about au pairs. They are a well known and reputable agency - there are some out there that are very dodgy!
KLO
We used to have several au pairs attend playgroup (like a free mothers group) with their charges, so they still had routine and were able to make friends. Definitely a sensible financial option - we are going down that route ourselves, with one day of day care to keep up the education aspect (our current daycare is amazing)
