Ashlenelouise
Hello guys, we'll after 11 months I have battled aphra and anmac, the dreaded ielts. Paid the visa fees and uploaded documents. ( all docs, meds and PCC uploaded . we're just waiting for the grant) now my question is ... I have secured a job in perth and I know the grass isn't always greener but "what is nursing in Australia really like?" Obviously the hours worked are the same I.e shift work but are wards really short staffed ? Is there good equipment? Do you feel supported - especially being a newbie to aus? Is the work life balance better then the uk? Just wanted to hear it from someone who is already there xx

The nursing role is VERY different than the UK. You get paid double for doing half as much. Which is good but you define lose some autonomy (well I have anyway) as there's so many other people doing the job I was used to. There's such easy access to social workers/OT's/psychologist that your 'care coordination' role in nursing is lost. But on the plus side there's no where near as much paperwork and the nursing ratio's are so much better. We have 6 nurses for 8 patients!!! Im hoping to be out there Middle July, cannot wait to get stuck in xx

JenPen
Sounds good I have heard you lose autonomy bit gain 1-1 care which actually I am quite happy with as the experience for patients must be better..x
