Monkey2645
To slightly hijack - is there a website that lists things they won't let in? I know about untreated wood/wicker etc but we have a rocking horse with real horse hair - does anyone know/think that might be a problem? Druid
The rule is for any untreated natural products as they can house parasites and the like, you could try saying nothing and dont bring attention to it, the worse that could happen is they could find it and ask that it be sterilised or destroyed at a fee, plead ignorance
Monkey2645
The irony is that the horse hair came out of Australia in the first place. I wouldn't want it destroyed as it was made by my dad but don't mind paying if they want it treating
Druid
Best way is to say nothing, just let the packers wrap it and pack it, a "Rocking Horse" on the inventory wont jump out as a risk to AQIS, worst that can happen is you will get the option to have it sterilised at a cost of about $400 or destroyed at a cost of about $400, AQIS tend to target high risk items on the inventories such as shoes, camping gear, anything to do with gardening, vacuum cleaners, bicycles. LoopyLauren
We have scrubbed our shoes ( well made a start anyhow, I just keep on finding more.....) not once but twice now and husband keeps going back and taking further inspections... We have used knives, tweezers, nail brushes, etc etc.... to get stones out of small gaps. I can't believe how good some of my shoes look. I hope they will be ok.
