Tim Stone
Hey PerthPoms, As you may or may not be aware, we DO NOT have Daylight Savings in Perth. As a forum dedicated to expats from the UK, you will have had Daylight Savings in your home country and understand the benefits. The latest sunset we have in Perth this year will be 7.27pm which occurs in January. Even for the very latest sunset for the year we are not allowing residents the chance to enjoy the world class weather our city is privvy to. London (9.22pm), Dublin (9.57pm), Edinburgh (10.03pm) and Cardiff (9.34pm) all have much later sunsets due to Daylight Savings which allow its residents to socialise after hours during the working week. Nationally, Sydney and Melbourne both have Daylight Savings which means when the roll their clocks forward, we go from being 2 hours behind to 3 hours behind which hurts our state economically in reducing our window for trade. Locally, the additional hour of sunlight promotes social interaction meaning more money spent in our local restaurants, bars and social clubs. A petition has started to introduce Daylight Savings here and we have already amassed 1,000 signatures. We are only looking to add 1 additional hour during summer in line with the eastern states and if you have 20 seconds, click the link below and sign the petition. Be sure to also paste the link to your Facebook page to keep the signatures rolling in. Without you the petition stops in its tracks, so please share with your family and friends https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/yes-to-perth-daylight-savings.html Thanks very much! biscuits72
We were surprised last week when we arrived in Perth from Adelaide at 7.30 pm to find it already dark! Daylight savings makes such a difference and from what we heard, it has been tried before 3 times in WA. Apparently the country dwellers are against it but city residents are for it. For us, it is definitely a bonus to have that extra evening time in the sun after working all day :-)

Anne
We have lived in Adelaide for 12yrs & in Perth for 30yrs. There have been three referendums re daylight saving. We are one of the boring older generation who do not want daylight saving. It is too hot in Summer & one looks forward to the sun going down earlier. ali
It doesn't effect my social life one way or another.
abc
Don't care, far more important issues for state government to deal with!
newjez
I have loved daylight savings each time it was tried. I used to keep my board in the car and head to the beach the minute I got home from work. But as you will quickly learn, trying to change the will of the sandgropers is like trying to tame a toddler. They just will not be told. They don't like change. If you can't accept that, probably best finding a more progressive state.
The Frets
No. Happy as it is. We get enough sunlight as it is. Sunrise is early, I go to work early, knackered when I get home. I can enjoy enough of the day when I'm home.
FOL
Signed. Only reason not to sign -in my humble opinion- is because you don't like change or you have given up hehe. The hottest moments of the day remain during the day anyway, there is no shfit of that. The early sun isn't that warm.
dxboz
Signed. Would love some extra daylight when I get home from work. Daylight does make me want to get out and do more things of an evening. Even just going for a walk - who wants to do that in the dark. Don't get that it is any hotter either. Also we don't need to be more out of sinc with the eastern states than we already are

Arwen
I wonder how people have time to do anything after school/work during the week. My life consists of after school activities, homework and cooking tea.

LoopyLauren
Gosh, having just made the move, it's tough one. yes i love the summer evening 's in the UK for the light for longer. But having young kids it's bugger getting them to bed when it's light! I will sleep on it. I guess they won't be young for long! I can't get used to the sun going down and it instantly going very cold!

We had to put up with it for 3yrs & then it was voted out. I have family & friends in Adelaide who wish they did not have to change the clocks. Weedolly
I have never yet heard an Australian talking about it. Doesnt bother me either way but why should it be changed if its just a load of whinging poms that want it! There is always over east or back to the UK if you are that bothered about an extra hour daylight.
Bibbs
We and everyone I know far preferred it when it was trialled. And on the other side, most the people I know didn't. I wasn't here for the trial, but I'm glad we don't have it.
Rossmoyne
Three trials and referendums and the majority still voted no. So why bang on about it? Surely part of emigrating is to embrace new experiences in another country and living without daylight saving in WA is one of them. Queensland and Northern Territory don't have daylight saving either you know. It just doesn't suit everywhere and everyone. I am open minded on it as it doesn't bother me either way, but as I say 3 referendums later and the majority still voted no, so I think we should accept that and get on with it.
