verystormy
Hi, just hijacking this post, sorry! Hubby has PR visa and has to activate (enter Oz) before November 2016. He is a brickie so we are a bit concerned about all we are hearing about a slow down in construction. Is it at all as bad as it seems? Is it at all possible to have a job lined up before we leave, or is this industry not available to that option? Any help/advice would be most appreciated. Thanks. To be honest, it was always hard to get something lined up before you arrive as companies want to know you are in the country. It is slowing significantly in Perth at the moment. However, it is impossible to know for how long.
dxboz
Now is not a good time to come -more people leaving Perth than coming in and there is a reason for that. Economy is dire at the moment. Everyone I work with has a family member having been made or about to be made redundant. Holding off coming for a while would be a better idea if possible. Wa7
Hi everyone ,me and my girlfriend are thinking of moving to oz , just wondering what its like for bricklayers to find work in perth and is the money and the consistancy of work all that its cracked up to be Any advice would be great ! Bit slow at the moment but if you are very good then once you got a start you would probably have no issues getting work, rates are $280 - $320 day I am in building game and have no problems getting work because I am in the very good category but at same time I am established here so not that immediate need for work that you would probably have so it's tricky for you, pricey place to be with no job.................if you do come out get the wed and Saturday paper for jobs and get on gumtree also, and come out October/November when weather picks up -

flatpack
The outlook hasn't improved much. House building has slowed down a lot. I have a mate who lives in Mandurah who's a bricky and he says nothing is getting built down there and he 's travelling to Midland everyday. There is work out there but it's paying less and you have to travel further for it.
robbiminator
New residential home starts are expected to drop from 31,000 last financial year to 22,000 this FY, 20,000 next and possibly as low as 18,000 the year after.
JohnC
Update to the brickies from home looking for work, good luck. http://au.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=f1d834038a7bd2ab&q=bricklayers&l=Perth&from=ifa&utm_source=publisher&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=newifa&pub=ed1a86dec6e1834630b1c3ffe3317b990cace3277f6b99df

There's been a real downturn in construction

I believe over east the construction boom is still in full effect.
