Hi There,

Im looking for some information regards cost of living in Perth, as I'm getting lots of different answers (via existing posts), some of which backdating to 2010 /12. If somebody could help us by letting us know some up to date costs it would be greatly appreciated.

We are a family of 4 need costs for the following per month -

Council Tax

Water

Phone / broadband / TV

Gas

Electric

House Insurance

Car insurance

Weekly grocery shop

nursery fees for a 3 year old

healthcare

Also if there is anything else i have forgotten please let me know.

Thanks

These are mine. No idea how much a family would cost.

Council Tax - $2000 a year (only if you are an owner, renters don't pay)

Water - $250 every 2 months ($200 of that is rates, which renters generally don't pay)

Phone / broadband / TV - $70 for mobile (2 sims, 10GB, unlimited mins/sms/international calls) / $60 (100GB) / $150 Foxtel (I don't like 99% of Free TV)

Gas - $150, 3 months

Electric - $200, 2 months

House Insurance - $150, monthly

Car insurance - $900, annual (HSV GTS), $600 (Mercedes C Class), $300 (Mazda 3), $600 (Toyota Hilux)

Weekly grocery shop - $200 (For 2, inc booze)

nursery fees for a 3 year old - No idea.

healthcare - $120 monthly Bupa (for single man), $60 weekly Gym.

Rego is about $600 per car annually

Hi, the figures quoted above are pretty close to ours,, but there are differences depending on where / how you live. We live in one of the cheaper areas (Kwinana) in an older 3 bed house, but with 800m2 of land. There are two of us (and 8 cats, but that's a different story).

1) We own our own house $250K, so rates are lower, only $1400/year, and our mortgage is $1100/month.

2) The Rego (car tax) is around $600/yr. That does include some basic 3rd party insurance, so you don't need further insurance by law. We take that chance and save money there.

3) We pay $120 for health care and we are a couple in our 50's.

Other costs are pretty similar.

Best of luck

Nick

C tax - none if you rent

water - not had a full bill yet - going to be relatively high tho! (Tho as renters we don't have to pay the rates so it's just usage - partial bill indicates about $30 per month)

phone and broadband - $80 with belong. And don't underestimate what a massive pita getting broadband could be depending where you live.

Dont know gas yet - just had a bill for $125 covering 2 months leccy

contents ins - free through bank (no buildings - rented)

car ins don't know yet as still in rental

grocery - about $200 per week - adult and 2 children - not being careful at all yet - it will go down

nursery fees - paying $72 per day. Prices vary (another option was $92 per day) - and check whether you're eligible for child care benefit/rebate

healthcare - $150 ish pm for adult and 2 children - incl hospital cover and extras

hope this helps :cute:

Can't argue with any of those figures. I will say though, it really is a silly risk not getting top up insurance on your car. The insurance that is included with rego is 3rd party person, if you damage someone's property then you have to pay. If they are insured then their insurance company will come for you and they will. $600 a year for a 4year old suv and $600 for. 4.0litre ute, not worth the risk.
