suefrater
Hi there We are thinking of our future move to Oz and the insurance of our container. We have been advised by a couple of removal companies that we will need a 20ft container. Has anyone organised their own insurance? We wondered if it was preferable rather than using the removals own insurance, as we have heard it can double the price of the original quote the removal companies give you. Any experiences gratefully received. Sue
Admin
Removals companies make most of their money through the selling of insurance as the markup on the actual shipping is so small. I've never heard of anyone paying more when they've organised their own marine transport insurance. The two major companies who specialise are Letton Percival - http://www.lettonpercival.co.uk/ and Insure Your Move
Letton Percival
Hi Sue. We can indeed provide you with a quotation, via our online quotation form. However, if you have any particular queries about any aspect of arranging your own insurance for your shipment, please do not hesitate to contact me on ian.harrison@lettonpercival.co.uk. Kind regards. Ian.
pegg
Hi suefrater, have you considered a move cube through seven seas instead of a 20ft container? just its cheaper and they offer insurance too. We have had a movecube and packed loads in!!!
Lynseylou
Hi, we are looking at Movecube. What size container did you have Pegg? Did you get any wooden items treated? We were looking at taking our sofa and getting it sprayed which I think costs about £300, but the man I spoke to at Movecube said on landing in Perth any wooden items in our cube would be destroyed. Are you supposed to have wooden items sprayed in the UK before shipping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
pegg
Hi we had a large cube, regarding wooden items it is only untreated wood (natural) bamboo and pine etc... thats a problem - we have taken loads of wooden drawers and dont think it will be a problem, you just need to write down what you have. We havent sparyed anything.
