JaseandAnne
Hey everyone, The wife and I like to eat out, either lunch or tea once a week, but have found the food here to be a little......well..... substandard!! Is it just our choice of place and are we missing good places? We tend to have to go to Kid friendly places with a 6 year old and 22 month old and we tend to eat probably earlier. We've noticed that we get a big portion but it tends to be not that great and we've not found anywhere that we would actually go back again to? We are SOR and last night drove to Mandurah to go to a steak, ribs and Burger joint that had mixed reviews on Zomato. The food was ok but my steak wasn't great quality even thought I went for a good cut of meat, stringy and grissly. The only place where we have found the food to be very good was the Whistling Kyte in Secret Harbour but they only have something to entertain the kids a couple of evenings a week. Any recommendations? Or advice where we are going wrong??
Laz
Don't eat at pubs - food is often rubbish. If you want a cheap eat with kids then sometimes Asian food courts are good - apparently Gosnells is good. We like to go with kids to V Burger...and I've heard Grill'd is good too. Don't know if you have either of those near you.
Bibbs
With kids I'd imagine i'd be difficult. All the 'quality' places I like/know are not really kid friendly. Laz suggests the Burger places (V and Grill'd), both chains, but usually good. Better than a Maccas by quite some margin. But in general, I agree, it takes a lot of hunting to find somewhere good. Cleowag
Hi Jase and Anne. If you venture down to Mandurah again, try Grill'd, Silk Thai, Salt or for kid friendly option, open all day- Oceanic at Dolphin Quay. Eating out is our hobby too and we've been sampling a lot since we arrived! I can guess where you went in Mandurah, I wasn't impressed with that either but luckily there are some far nicer places. Happy eating!
Rossmoyne
I can't recommend anything down your way that is kid friendly @JaseandAnne, but if you do find somewhere you like, please post on here about it as I am sure there are many other people who would be interested. If the place you went to in Mandurah is the nationwide chain I am thinking of, I know exactly why you weren't impressed. Most people only go there once! Raychelsb
We too have spent a fair bit of money on food places as we like to eat out too and have found that a lot of the money has been a waste! But here's a list of places we like, and have enjoyed more than once. Cobblers in Halls Head - a more upmarket pub/trendy bar and restaurant and very good food. Irish Bar in Mandurah - family friendly and honest pub grub. Golden Tandoori for our favourite curry place, Oyster Bar - both on Dolphin Quays in Mandurah. Catch 22 Tapas bar in Mandurah - I love their tapas menu and pizzas. Ravenswood Tavern - easy pub food, generous portions and usually tasty. We are yet to try Salt Bistro in Mandurah but it has good reputation. A few people I work with go on about a Mexican in Safety Bay that's really good and family friendly too. We like the Italian in Rockingham just set back from the foreshore called Three Wishes.
Arwen
I can't help with restaurants down that way but in my experience restaurants (apart from high end which i wouldn't take small kids too) seem much more kid friendly as long as the kids are well behaved. We always took ours to normal restaurants from an early age so they knew how to behave when eating out and also gave them a taste of different foods. My 14 year old loves tapas and thai food. Experiment a bit.
verystormy
I cant help with kid friendly, but can advise on the higher end.

Be interested in some suggestions for a night out with the wife. Not too "high end" though I'm only on a lowly mechanics wage.

Perth isn't the cheapest place to eat out, but Print Hall isn't too bad and gets very lively. Decent cocktails on the roof terrace. Nobu at the casino is not break the bank if you avoid the tasting menus.
