2871094
After living here for 3 years, I just find it fascinating. Rarely do any Perth shows out people up south of the river though. Actually I can't recall any. And I don't mean way off the map like Rockingham etc. Just normal SOR. Like lovely Willagee...
2871094
Damned auto correct. For 'out' substitute 'put'.
elfie
the fairly tale living the dream not reality unfortunately. does not give pitfalls and obstacles that one may find when actually living here. so no i do not watch
2871094
The 'dream' is generally imposed by the people wishing to make the move, not always the BBC although Nicki Chapman doesn't help by claiming how warm it always is and other flippant comments. There are a number of episodes where things haven't worked out and do not have the uplifting fairytale ending at all. Certainly I recall one revisited episode when the poor mother broke down at the end of the show after years of stress trying to make the dream work. 'Fake it till you make it' she said. Scot01
Can't stand it, same format for every programme and the weeping on the sofa section is painful. Biggest criticism is it is all about houses - they choose the best house in the worst area and people think great, I can move there and live in a house like that and then find that actually the schools are crap, the crime rate high and they'd never want to live there. pegg
i dont think you can get to know a country in just one week ….. But i remember when its December in the UK and freezing , i used to like a bit of wanted down under ) Although did prefer the show with phil spencer - Was it "get a new life down under " ????? Cant remember ;o)
2871094
I agree a week is too short to 'experience all aspects of aussie life'. I think the BBC shouldn't keep saying that. There is the occasional episode that shows when things don't turn out as hoped. I recall one revisited episode where a mother broke down at the end due to the years of stress trying to make the dream work. 'Fake it till you make it'. That awful period where you have put too much into it to throw the towel in, and the kids are settling reasonably well; but your own situation is an unhappy one and you wish you never had the idea in the first place. 2871094
WDU does show the occasional episode where things don't work out. I do recall one mother in a revisited episode who broke down at the end of the show due to years of stress trying to make the dream work. 'Fake it till you make it'. That terrible moment where you have out too much into it to throw the towel in, but you're just unhappy with the whole thing and wish you never had the idea in the first place. And you're unhappy that you're unhappy.

Rossmoyne
I haven't watched it for years. I always felt they weren't giving a balanced view and showed property that was either in awful areas no-one would live in, or in new areas so far out in suburbia. They never looked at established older suburbs in Perth, Rockingham, Mandurah, or even WA regional towns.
dunnyboy
we watch it, just to get a little aus fix before we head over.... its a bit lame really though. it doesn't give any idea of the hoops you have to just through to get visas etc it all makes it sound so simple... and then they do the price comparison thing according to the prevailing exchange rate.... oh and they look at homes way out of budget and punters give it "well its only a hundred grand over our budget... we can do that " and... does nicky bignose do her bit from her private beach while on holiday?? benj1980
They showed Mandurah last series as a lady on here was on it. I like watching it, although haven't for a while. We watched from the uk as well, although it doesn't give you the full picture it certainly gave me food for thought and things to research. sussex boy
I used to watch the show in the Uk and like it, but having lived in Oz already knew it was not balanced. I think a lot of people get it wrong with : i am going to live there : when they should be thinking, right, find a job and then choose where to live so poor husband does not have a 4 hour commute to where his work is etc
