Primary schools in Kingsley

Hi all. We arrived in Perth just over a month ago and I'm just weighing up the pros/cons of different suburbs to hopefully settle in when our lease is up in April. Finding a primary school to suit our family is a major factor in the decision (daughter is only 3, but would like to make the right choice now so we don't have to move *again*!), along with finding somewhere with a bit more of a community feel. I'm currently quite drawn to Kingsley. Do any of you have opinions/experience on the schools there? I'm planning a visit, but would appreciate first hand experience too. Thanks :-)

Hi Kitty,

To be honest, I think in general primary schools are really much of a muchness, If you're thinking of settling long term in a suburb I would probably be looking at HS (although your little one is only 3). I can't answer re Kingsly as I don't know the suburb/schools.

In some ways I agree with Ali as secondary schools are an important part of your child's education. But as your child is only 3, I really think you need to look at primary schools and what they offer as they will be fundamental in shaping your child into the teenager who will be going to high school.

A good school is only as good as the Principal in charge and the teachers employed at a certain time. You can go through all the data available online to suss out schools, but until you actually go into a school and talk to a Principal and meet teachers and get a feel for the whole place, and discuss your child and their physical and emotional needs, you won't know whether it is a good choice or not.

I speak as a retired education administrator who had children with specific needs in primary school, so I have some degree of knowledge on this.

It isn't easy to choose a school for your children and it certainly can't be done from the internet. You need to visit schools and have a tour and talk to the Principal/teacher etc. And it doesn't matter at all in the scheme of things if you have to move a child from a school because he/she is not a good fit with what they offer.

Hi both. Sorry, haven't had a chance to get on here for ages and must have missed the notification if your posts! Just to say thanks for taking the time to reply. We are looking at hs and a few other places as options, and have some help on the way too. TVM again.

Hi,

I am in Kingsley and have 3 kids in Primary, mine are at Dalmain and we couldnt be happier with it as a school. I have also heard positive things about the other schools in the area too and we love the suburb . Whilst I agree to some extent that it is worth keeping an eye on secondary schools , I also think you have a long way to go before you get there and a lot can change in that time as Rossy says principles changing can have a huge impact on how schools are so I would take note of secondary and perhaps let that be a factor but not put too much emphasis on it at this point in time! As you say, go have a look and see how you feel about the schools, that will help with your decision making. Good luck :-)

Thanks Walkabout. Yes, not really thinking about secondary at this stage as so much (school wise & personally) can change. I'm keen for her to enjoy education, whether that be at school or home, so trying to find somewhere she is comfortable in a suburb we like. We are planning on visiting a few schools in Kingsley and surrounds when they are back, plus bold park community school (although I fear we will love it but not be able to afford it!). Thanks for the personal experience input, always good to hear.
