JobyJo Posted September 20, 2017 Report Share Posted September 20, 2017 After a long 2 years of planning, the dream came true and we landed at Perth airport on 7th September, tired and excited. We were fortunate enough to stay with friends for the first 4 days before moving into a holiday let for 10 days. The last 10 days have been manic (and expensive) but I finally feel we are getting there and settling in already. So here's what we have done in the last 10 days: Bought a car, enrolled children into school, medicare and Centrelink visit complete, GP sorted, kids started althletics and enrolled at hockey club, found a rental for the next 12 months (slightly above budget but its lovely and has a pool so kids happy!), bought furniture for new rental, sorted broadband and insurance, DH had successful job interview....and on top of this have managed trips to the beach, an afternoon in Kings Park, and a visit to Perth city. So far, so good..... I still have an issue with my nursing registration but that seems an ongoing saga! Overall, we are all feeling settled. I cannot stress how helpful and friendly people are here. Container arrived in port yesterday so once that arrives with us it will feel a bit more like home. If you go to healthengine.com.au you can search for a gp in your area, some have reviews. Once you've found one, just go in and ask to register and they'll give you a form to fill in. You'll need your medicare number. You don't have to do it in advance, you can register when you go in for your first appointment, and you can see different GPS at different practices. You'd just need to fill out a new form. There may be a Facebook community group for your suburb, you could ask for recommendations on there. When we registered for Medicare they sent an email saying that it can take 6 weeks for our number to come through, so hopefully it will not be that long as we will need a GP for medication. Jane. You can go to any GP you want... well unless they say they have too many patients and won't accept you. So if you find the first GP you see doesn't suit you, just keep shopping away for a GP. Absolutely, I'm on my 3rd GP's and what a gem she is .. a no nonsense Indian lady who is brilliant - doesn't mess around and the bonus is that it's a bulk billing practise. I had been happy with our last GP to a point but a couple of things with my hubby and my not feeling they were thorough enough made me change. I have sent them everything they requested certified even a syllabus of my training programme signed by the university. They have my degree certificate plus a whole bunch of other stuff. JobyJo, I feel sorry and sad for you to read about this. I am sure you are a competent nurse but this is ridiculous, just smacks full of industry protectionism and daylight robbery. Please try to appeal, it seems very unreasonable after 20 years to do a bridging program. I will be travelling to Perth next month to complete my registration and to get a feel of Perth before the big move. Good luck going forward. I plan to move in 8 months does anyone know if i can register schools and GP before i move. GP's you don't need to register until you move - unlike the UK you can go to any GP (providing they've got room on their list). We provisionally had a choice of school, registration took place just before they commenced - we needed to show our visa, proof of address and immunisation history for the children.
