Medway
Just got a quick question about our NI contributions and State Pension if anyone can help me? I have worked in UK more than nine years in NHS Trust and I'm here in Oz around six years now. I am just wondering if anyone can advice me what to do. Thank you. A friend of mine had told me that I can claim back the tax I paid hence I am only working in the UK for less than 10 years. Would this be the case? With my NI contribution for 9 years, would that qualify me for a UK state pension?
verystormy
No and no. It doesn't matter how long you worked in the UK, if you were resident, then you pay tax. 9 years of NI would not be sufficient to claim a state pension. You can though continue to pay NI to later qualify for it. If you are a British citizen
Medway
Hi verystormy, Thank you for your reply and information. I am here in Australia for 6 years now, would I still be allowed to contribute ? If so, how to do it and what should I do? Thanks
