Macedon Ranges Firewood Ya Posted Tuesday at 11:24 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 11:24 I wanted to start a discussion about Redgum Firewood, as I’ve recently started using it for heating my home and thought it might be worth sharing my experience. I’ve read a lot about different types of firewood, but Redgum seems to stand out for several reasons. I’m curious to know if others here have used Redgum firewood, and what your thoughts are on its benefits. My Experience with Redgum Firewood I’ve been burning Redgum for a couple of months now, and I’m really impressed. Here are some of the reasons I think it’s one of the best firewood options available: Long Burn Time: Redgum is a hardwood, and it’s incredibly dense, which means it burns much longer than softwoods. I’ve been able to get through cold nights with very little need to add more wood to the fire, making it more efficient for heating. High Heat Output: The heat produced by Redgum is phenomenal. It burns very hot, which is perfect for keeping my home warm even during the coldest months. The flame stays strong, and the room heats up quickly. Minimal Smoke: One thing I love about Redgum is how little smoke it produces. It burns cleanly, which is great for both indoor and outdoor fires. I’ve noticed a significant reduction in the amount of ash compared to some other hardwoods. Great for Cooking: I’ve also used Redgum for outdoor grilling, and the aroma it imparts to the food is incredible. It adds a rich, smoky flavor to meat, making it ideal for BBQs and smoking meats. Easy to Split: While Redgum is a dense wood, I’ve found that it splits quite easily, which is a big plus if you’re processing it yourself. I’ve used a hydraulic splitter, but with the right tools, it should be manageable for most people. What to Consider When Using Redgum Firewood Availability: Redgum is more common in certain regions, especially in Australia, so make sure you can easily source it locally if you plan to rely on it regularly. Cost: Due to its high demand and the long burn time, Redgum can sometimes be a bit more expensive than other firewoods. However, its efficiency makes it worth the investment in the long run. Storage: Like other hardwoods, Redgum should be stored properly (away from moisture and elevated off the ground) to ensure it dries out thoroughly and burns efficiently. Seasoned wood is best for maximum heat output.
