Guest pompomrach
Hi all, Love what I have read on here so far, so much good advice... and I need more I have a job offer with a successful company in Perth, I received the formal offer on Oct 20th and instructions for visa on Nov 15th. They want me there to start work on Jan 10th 2011!! I realise, having read some of the threads on here, that I may be being selfish getting anxious about timescales when I know some people have been waiting for months, but I am so worried about geting everything sorted! I would be most grateful to hear about similar experiences others have had and how they have coped. Many thanks is advance
Guest donki
We had a similar experience ... 2adults 2 teens and a dog!!! just like us your bound to make some really good choices and some not so good , but as long as their your choices then you can move on from them, Hey Perths a pretty good place to live just try and not rush into anything( houses cars etc hard as it will be) and try to chilax and enjoy the whole experience, just think this time next year you'll be all set for an Aussie Christmas good luck

Guest pompomrach
Hi, Thanks for the reply Donki, I fully intend to enjoy every minute, just hope I can. Irishman... I can only comment on my own experience but will give you as much info as I can. I have applied for a 457 sponsored visa which, if granted, will allow me to live and work in Australia on a temporary basis for up to 4 years. After 4 years I will have the option to re-apply for another temporary visa or apply for perm residence. (Although my employer has said I will be able to apply for perm residence after two years) I did not need any qualifications specific to my occupation but did need to have either 5 years experience or 3 years experience plus a degree and my occupation had to be the list associated with 457 visas. My employer also had to have been approved as a sponsor. My employer nominated an agent for me and is paying for this so I do not know the costs for his service. In my case I have had to supply full written references for the last three years and a copy of my degree (alternatively it would have been five years written refs). I have also had to obtain medical insurance and complete the necessary government forms. I have no children, so it will be just me and my partner going (he will be classed as a de facto partner on my visa). We have had to provide various documents to prove we have been living together as a couple for at least 6 months. With regards to the actual sponsorship itself you are restricted to the same occupation and employer for which it is granted for the full length of the visa. If you change employers you must effectively re-apply and if you loose your job you have a limited amount of time to find another before you are likely to be asked to leave. My partner will not have any restrictions regarding his work but obviously is only entitled to stay whilst I am. From the research I have done it appears that as a temporary resident there are many things which you are not entitled to. I think there might be quite a lot of things that you will have to pay for with regards to your children, such as dental care etc, although I am not 100% sure. Please feel free to ask me anything else, I will certainly try and help.
Guest donki
You can apply for pr now, which i think i'm right in saying the medicals you had for your 457 can be reused and your police checks if you needed them (just a thought)
Guest pompomrach
Can I really??? How do I do that?? I didn't have any medicals or police checks for this visa, was advised they were not necessary due to my occupation. Would love further info though please and thanks again!
