Guest ALIRANK
Hi - I am new on here & hope you can help!! We are currently considering an offer of employment on a 457 visa and are wondering what the extra cost of living would be over a PR Visa. We have 2 children aged 4 & 1, and we'd be looking to rent for 2 years & then buy a property at which point we should have a PR VISA. We understand certain benefits are not available on a 457 Visa, & wonder if you can offer any advise on what the loss would be on a salary circa $60000. e.g 1) Family Benefit A/B - What does this roughly equate to? 2) Child benefit - what does this roughly equate to? 3) Rental Allowance - what does this equate to? 4) Does schooling have to be paid for on a 457 Visa? / if so what are approx fees? Is there anything else i am missing, I believe you do get medicare on a 457 Visa, is it also compulsory to take out private medical insurance on a 457 Visa - Does this also apply on a PR Visa and do the costs differ? Hope you can help, has will really help us understand our finances! Thanks Alison:smile:
Guest stevieb
Hi Alison Welcome to the forum. There's a Family Tax Benefit calculator @ Family Assistance Office | Online Services You wouldn't pay state school tuition fees on a 457 in WA, the only cost would be the various (optional) contributions/levys that schools ask for at the beginning of each year which normally come to around $300 as a rough average. Regards medicare/ 457 health insurance - being enrolled with Medicare under Reciprocal Health Care Arrangements is sufficient to meet the health insurance requirement at visa grant and to comply with visa condition 8501. However, you can only enrol with Medicare if you are in Australia. If you are overseas, you must arrange adequate insurance for your initial period in Australia and provide evidence of this insurance as part of your application. You may be eligible to then enrol with Medicare once you are in Australia.

deanhewitt
Hi there, Congratulations on your 457 and job offer. I am in the position of deciding which job offer to take also on a 457. I fly out in May to make a decision when I meet the 3 companies I have offers from. Just hope myself and partner like Perth lol I have found this website Health Insurance Comparison, Compare Health Cover & Health Funds | moneytime which I found to be the easiest and most straight forward to use. Suppose it is like one of our comparison websites. Hope this helps? Regards, Dean & Margaret Ann
