Guest The Family Witts
Hi guys, I am looking to secure sponsorship via a 457 Visa. Having spoken to a few agents and employers directly, I know that I will have my (and my family's) flights to Aus fully paid for by my Sponsor. It will be our intention to return to the UK say once a year for a couple of weeks to visit family and friends. Upon reading the Australian Government 457 Visa document, I noticed an item which I would like to ask for some clarification on; I quote: Obligation to pay travel costs to enable sponsored persons to leave Australia "Sponsors must pay reasonable and necessary travel costs to enable their sponsored workers and their family members to leave Australia. This is rquired providing the costs have been requested in writing by the sponsored worker or their family member or the department on their behalf, and the costs have not already been paid by the Sponsor in accordance with this obligation." Now this obligation stops when "the sponsored person has left Australia and no longer holds a visa" - this leads me to think that this obligation refers to me & family leaving the Country for holiday purposes - is my assumption correct? I am not being 'tight' here; I am happy to pay for my own holiday travel costs, but I would like confirmation on this Visa obligation as any travel saving of my own money I can make to spend on the kids instead would be great! Thanks for any help, Lee.
Guest stevieb
Hi Lee As far as I am aware, the travel costs are one way repatriation costs, hence why it's phrased as "Your employer is required to pay reasonable and necessary travel costs to enable you and your dependents (who are sponsored by your employer) to leave Australia and return to your home country" It was part of the 'Worker Protection' changes that came into force in late 2009 and it's intention is presumably to prevent employees from being stranded in a foreign land / feeling trapped with an unscrupulous employer because they can't afford to return home.
