Guest ALIRANK
Hi Everyone, We've just accepted an offer on a sponsored Visa and are in the process of getting our documents together. Is it necessary to include a reference from my current employer as part of the application, or would my CV & school qualifications be sufficient? (Just concerned may set alarm bells ringing if my line manager hears of the reference request from the HR dept)!! - I've been there 16 years so can't really approach any previous employers! I also understand that I need to attach Health insurance evidence as part of the application - Can anybody recommend anybody / provide any links to insurance providers? Do you also need to provide an expected arrival date in australia as there are various dependencies for this...i.e Visa approval/sale of house etc. Do they only take first payment also when you arrive in australia? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Alison
Guest vicstick
Hi, We are waiting to hear about our 457 visa having posted it 2 weeks ago. We included a signed copy of CV and references from some of hubby's colleagues, but then work knew we were going. With health insurance we took out a monthly payment policy with Medibank. They take first months payment over the phone then issue you a cover letter to send to DIAC. It has a provisional arrival/ start date which you can change on arrival in Oz if earlier/ later then planned. V
verystormy
Actually if you are comming from the UK you do not require medical insurance as reciprical cover is provided in Australia via Medicare. If you chose to take cover and many Australians do be VERY careful which you take as most, including Medibank to not allow 457 holders to claim the medicare levi surcharge back when getting their tax return. Basicaly what this means is that in Oz everyone has to complete a tax return and most people get a nice sum back. One of the things that people get back is a lump sum for having private medical cover. However, for reasons i have never fully understood, 457 holders normally arent entitled. However, there are some policies set up that do allow it. The one that my company have set me up with is HBA.

verystormy
Hi Jo It depends on what job you do? What sort of thing are you looking for? Some areas are a lot easier than others to obtain a 457.
Guest jo1976
hi verystormy, i have a psychosocial degree and have been working as a support worker within the mental health sector as well as supporting adults with learning disabilities. i have emailed a few companies within that area after i googled it an so far i have had a few replies but only one that suggests keeping my details in case there position changes and they can offer me asponsorship. verystormy
Hi Jo. Not very sure about that sort of area. Would you be regarded in the same sort of bracket as a social worker? 457 visas are usually only done when a company can not find a local who is qualified to do the job. So tends to be things that are in very short supply here. For example in my industry it is things like geoscientists and engineers. Have you tried contacting public health bodies? Also, if you can work with the elderly have a look around the Mandurah area as it has a big population of elderly people.

verystormy
Hi Jo The visa process for employer sponsored visas is initiated by the employer, so you need to find a company / organisation willing to employ you and act as your sponsor. So you need the job first before you can do anything. The process is fairly fast and can be done in as little as a month. Normally 4-8 weeks. However, you should be aware that because of the visa regulations, the practicalities and not least the cost to a company that sponsership might be VERY difficult to obtain in your area of work. It is mainly used for things like accountants, nurses, doctors, engineers and scientists. It is occaisionaly given to tradespeople such as electricians and things, but even they find it hard to get. I think, it would be close to impossible for you to get someone to sponser you. There may be other options, and it may be worth speaking to an immigration consultant. verystormy
Hi Jo I am afraid i am not very familiar with the other routes. One option may be a long way round but does offer the opportunity and that would be to gain a qualifactation in an area that would get you sponsorship. Another might be to go down the route of the full permanent residence visas such as state sponsorship. Hope this helps.
Guest jo1976
hi verystormy, i am in fact starting uni this sept (hopefully) to do a second degree in social work so at the end of the 3 years i will be a fully qualified social worker. however that takes time and im not sure how in demand they are in Australia as i have not seen many job vacencies in this area. i will now look into business visa for my husband who is a very sucessfull businessman here in England and would be looking to buy and run an established business over there within the takeaway food sector. thanks again for your help Jo:smile:
