Newbie to Perth poms

Hello we are new to Perth poms, we have been members of the sister site pio for a few years but finally got our visa today and were coming to WA. Mandurah to be exact on a 475 visa. We are Michelle & John and two girls 5 and 8.

Weve had many ups and downs with the visa process not knowing if we would get to this stage or not, up until last week we had given up and were heading to Adelaide...

But it's all come good and we look forward to getting to know a few of you and moving over in December. I am really excited but a little overwhelmed with what we now need to do so I am sure there will be lots of questions which I hope you can all help with :)

Hi Julie

Congratulations on the visa, has it sunk in yet? We are going to Mandurah, not far from Rockingham. Have you sorted shipping or anything else yet?

Hello, any ideas where abouts you are heading yet? It will be nice to have the last Christmas in the UK, but for us we have been saying its our last one for the past 3 years lol! Family dont seem to be buying that anymore :).

Hi Julie and Michelle,

Congratulations!!!!!! You will be so excited even though you've been waiting for this day for such a long time. I moved from Scotland to NZ 16 years ago and didn't take any furniture because we didn't think it was work taking. That was a big mistake as we spent a fortune trying to replace it (much more than what shipping would have cost). Having your own things around will help you settle and feel 'at home'.

We are also making the move to Perth at the end of June, and we too like the look of Mandurah. My hubby is going over in may for 7 days to do a course and is going to have a look around. My the poor man is going to be very busy checking out all the things I want him to look at. I have got a place reserved my my 11 year old at Assumption Catholic Primary in Mandurah, but it's not definite that we'll end up there (more than like SOR though). Good luck all!

We used john masons in the uk for our shipping over here , for us we were glad we did it .. it all adds up replacing all off those little things it can be a bit of a shock lol .. we brought the bikes most of it and still wish we had brought more , i left my tumble dryer and the first winter here had to go and buy a new one !

I totally agree with the others. We Have done the move 3 times now (i know one of the many, but now here for good!). This moved back from Essex in the UK to Perth 5 months ago is the first time that we have packed up the whole house and we haven't regretted it. We used Doree Bonner from the UK who were fantastic. With them you get 8 weeks of free storage in Perth with Grace if you need it (and we did). We just found that wether you were replacing furniture in Oz or the UK it cost a whole load more than what you thought it would. Also after the stress of a huge upheaval to sit on your own favourite sofa is lovely. Good luck with it all.
