scoon101
Hi guys, I'm in the process of immigrating to Perth, Ive been separated from my ex for a number of years and the kids are happy to stay with their mum and holiday with me, My question is my agent informed me that both my girls require medicals even though they are not on the visa application and have no intention of coming to Oz with me. Is this generally the case or am i being had??? Many thanks for reading this thread, look forward to your insights Matt

Many thanks for reading this thread, look forward to your insights Matt Hi Matt As far as I know, any non-migrating dependants do not have to go through anything - why would they ? Medicals are there to check for any potential long-term, and therefore expensive, health issues. If they are not migrating, there would be no reason for any med checks. You do have to note them down on your application though (inc parents, brothers and sisters, etc) but I think thats all Regards Roy

Admin
Hi guys, I'm in the process of immigrating to Perth, Ive been separated from my ex for a number of years and the kids are happy to stay with their mum and holiday with me, My question is my agent informed me that both my girls require medicals even though they are not on the visa application and have no intention of coming to Oz with me. Many thanks for reading this thread, look forward to your insights Matt You are correct in what you've been told initially, they WILL require a medical. There's numerous threads about this on the internet. If you have a look at the medical form @ http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/26.pdf one of the options on question 13 is "are you a non-migrating family member of an applicant?" The health checks are a requirement incase they decide at a later date that they may wish to join you.
ali
Non migrating children require a medical
scoon101
Thank you guys, Ive done some research into this and yes you are right, it looks like they do need medicals. Many thanks for your time in replying
Guest Daz0901
This totally crazy that they require medicals if they are not on the visa app
ali
But if something should happen to the parent who they live with in the UK it is likely that they will be looking to come to live with the parent who resides in Aus
scoon101
I do understand what the Ozzy government are trying to do but yeah it does seem to be a bit over the top, Every application should be taken with its own merits under guide lines, isn't that what case workers are about? And what if heaven forbid something is found on the medical? what are the implications, on one hand you get the heads up on an issue that may not have risen for years and early treatment can be given but does that then exclude the applicant from getting the visa? One example would be diabetes, its a long term and sometimes expensive illness and they say 1 in 15 people in the UK has it without their knowledge. ali
Cost to the aussie government for diabetes would be small as you pay for all your medications anyway. My friend moved over with diabetes. To be honest I think the CO is someone who just checks that all the necessary documentation has been received. As medicals are only valid for a year anyway, I can understand your frustration. I don't think that something coming up on a non migrating childs medical would necessarily stop the primary applicants visa ... but may not allow them their own visa at a later date - not sure though
scoon101
It does feel like someone's making a lot of money out of our Ozzy dream and extra £600 over the budget plus £1700 for an exam last year that's no longer needed oh well nearly there! maybe a few more blueband fish fingers and many hours of overtime and the dream will be realized. ali
It's all worth it in the end!! I remember we just seem to keep throwing money ... all forgotten when you get the visa ... when are you hoping to head over?
scoon101
I know it will be, had a few months in Oz some years back and I've been wanting to go back home ever since! We are hoping to have the Visa in our hands my the end of September, the house will be sold by then so as soon as the funds are transferred its that 1 way ticket over ) Sounds like you guys have found your own piece of home in the big outback
ali
Yeah, we're really content, been here 4 years, lucky enough to arrive before the citizenship changes so got our citizenship in 2009. My daughter commented the other day that she's glad she's been able to have her teenage years in Australia ... so no regrets from the kids either
