acbenson
Hi all, We are the Bensons; Helen, Olly and myself Tony. This morning after nearly 3 years of waiting our 176 was granted!! We'll be looking to activate our visa in august/september time and then figure out the actual migration after that! It would be great to get to know anyone in a similar scenario as we may be able to help each out along the way! All the best Tony

acbenson
shock and panic about the organisational side of things. actually question about international movers, aus tax requirements if I may? We were intending on activating the visa with a holiday, and them actually migrating later. Does that lose us some sort of personal allowance benefit as technically the holiday will be our first visit under the visa to Aus?
phil
Congratulations! What sort of personal benefit are you concerned about? A tax thing?

acbenson
actually just, the very brief research I have done at the moment, suggests that as a migrant you get a certain about of tax allowence when bring goods (UPEs) in at time of your first visit to Aus. I was trying to ascertain if I had really understood it correctly and if the activation visit counts as the first visit. Make sense?
Guest Soapsudsue
Hello Tony, We are the massey family Terry,Emma Skye and Sol. We recently recieved our visa 176 and are looking to touch down in perth in Oct. We are not doing a reccie, just going for it. Rented a holiday let for six weeks and hoping to secure a job and find an area to live in within that time. whats your plan?
Give me a break!
I cannot see that an activation visit would make any difference to anything other than your baggage allowance. As a visitor you would not have a tax file number so anything you do is irrelevent to when you make your move over.
acbenson
yeah unfortunately circumstances mean we probably wont actually go for about 18 months. real shame but cant really be helped. let me know how you get on!
