Guest The Newlands

Hi all

We too are emigrating to Perth very soon. Looking into the job market and there are allot of jobs about, however, I do feel that you stand a better chance to secure employment if you are present in the Country. I have applied for 3 jobs and in talks with 2 so I guess I have been fortunate that my CV or resume/persistence has paid off.

I'm Middle Management, (Recruitment) and the Du diligence I have obtained so far leads me to believe and able to advise people not to give up. Never close doors, be persistent even if you have to call companies from the UK. Companies like Pro active people and people that think out of the box.

Make some tentative enquires over the phone, even if you have to set your alarm for the middle of the night to discuss positions with the decision maker. Its hard but keep at it. I even phoned local competitors of the companies I am in discussions with. I also went as far as canvassing my husband out to local construction companies just to see how the land lies and guess what, they invited him down for interview. Ops, I was calling from the UK but this does show that a little work and great du diligence WILL end in a result you are looking for. If anyone wants more info then please pm me. Sarah

My husband got his first job here with Hays. You do need to keep on at the though. If a job states some sort of certifiation, but if you feel you have the experience and feel you can do the job still apply...my husband nearly didn't apply as he needed a certificate in Drain laying..but he had done it within his job for years so still applied and got the job.

Good Luck

Hi guys, my wife just finished uni and got her BA hons in psychology. It's our aim to move to Perth, as she has family there. We have literally just started trying to get as much information as we can to help us but think we are getting overwhelmed by the amount. Can anyone advise us where to look for potential employers for an assistant psychologist/health care worker and the chances of getting someone to sponser a graduate? She also has experience in health care and working with people with special needs.

Thank you for your time and any advice :)

Gary

  • 1 month later...

I got a job offer and sponsor through emailing my cv to companies.

True the WA yellow pages then just email you cv to every company in your chosen profession.

5 months from me emailing my cv to them offering me a job (and 457 sponsorahip) but it was worth the wait.

Have recently submitted our visa application and hope to get our visas soon.

I work in Learning & Development, have been in Perth for around 6 weeks and looking for a job for the last week. Nothing yet to get excited about, most jobs at my level seem to be paying around $100k but I came here for a change and TBH I'll do anything. In between school runs and childcare I'm doing a lot of voluntary work - gardening and maintenance/decorating mainly because it keeps me busy and I like meeting people as well as giving something back.

My wife is a Production Manager specialising in Costume & Prop making and we earn a lot less than we did in the UK but it's not why we came, it's a massive leap forward in terms of lifestyle compared to London - we all smile and laugh a lot more than we did.

Guest Legal Angel

Hi

I'm a legal secretary - have a job arranged by Hayes after 2 weeks, though I'm waiting on the letter of offer. Money in the region of 60k, depending on experience for working in CBD.

I emailed 3 agencies from Ireland with my CV and got a good response from them all but Hayes actually arranged an interview time before I even arrived in the country and were very positive. Wood Recruitment were great too.

I found that legal secretarys and possibly all secretarys are in demand and agencies are clamouring for people and if you present yourself well, have good skills, you should be working within a few weeks.

Good luck all.

Hi,

Im a Plumbing and Heating (Gas) Engineer in London. We have our 175 visas (Family x 5) and are coming over next summer for good. Little reckie trip planned for March for a month. Would love to line up a start ready for my arrival but it looks like i need to be there to put myself about ( Having spoken to friends there) so hoping to do that during March. I think the main thing i keep hearing is 'its not what you know but who you know'.

^ Edit that, have a job now. Not sure how they got hold of my CV but had an email from an organisation on Monday, called them Thursday, asked to go in for meeting Friday and was offered the job by 8.30am. Back into Learning and Development and focussing on Learning Technology, which I specialise in.

Happy days.

Thanks for your interest, (quickly Googles "third wave of management") oh, yeah, third wave stuff, know it well.

I'm no IT tech head though I can hold my own. My career history is in andragogical Learning & Development and I now use technology to create Virtual Learning Environments. Essentially I work with subject matter experts in developing content that blends traditional classroom training with a range of online resources to support the learner with self directed study.

That is very impressive and out of this world kind of profession and above all serving the masses.....actually being management accounting professional I am a bit cognizant of these contemporary techniques(though have to google the term "Andragogy"). May I know more about your educational background and experience. Will meet you for sure when I will land in Perth !

Take care and nice to meet people like you!

Thanks

My husband is a qualified accountant, but has been working in an FD position (so for those in this line of business, he works in 'industry' and not 'practice'). I work as a Receptionist / Admin Assistant on the Main Reception of a Hospital. I would be really grateful if anyone could give us some idea on salary for me and my husband. Many thanks in advance, PomPom
