Guest NeilEB
Ok then, I may as well start the first thread in this new sub-forum, seeing as I asked for it. Let's have a list of free things to do in Perth & WA. Days out, activities, hobbies, anything goes, as long as it's free. Any really nice areas to go for a walk? Any good, safe cycle paths? Family friendly activities?
RobynMargarat
I would have suggested going to our state Museum but apparently the powers that be have demolished it... Having seen a series on ABC1 about your natural history museum and learnt lots of things I didnt know, its a pity our has bit the dust... They were old buildings in Northbridge around near Alexandra Library.... well wait for it to be re-built. There is a Maritime museum in Fremantle, a railway museum out in Ashfield/Bassendean where a lot of old railway carriages and stuff like that is stored. There is also a Fire Brigade museum, in East Perth I think.not sure if there is a Police one yet... I have just got my latest Horizon magazine which members of RAC roadside and insurance get bi-monthly in which it lists things that are on, around this city and in the state. Not sure if they are all free though. 17-19 June Hillarys Antique and Vintage Fair. Hillarys Boat Harbour. orienteering Sundays June & July... various bush and farm locations, check out wa orienteering asn au Mountain Designs Adventure Race Australia, 24 July Nanga bush camp & forest retreat Dwellingup. 25-26th June York Gourmet food and wine festival. A nice run to the town of York. Lots of stalls from people who are into that type of food, there is a car museum, for the guys if they are bored with checking out the food. some of the cars used to be in the WA museum. 19th June Mandurah Jazz club meeting at the RSL club Mandurah..if you want the phone number, ask me for the contact no. 24-26th June Everywoman`s Expo, Perth Conventions centre. Ladies especially might want to escape the humdrum and roll up there. look it up on the convention centre site. you really should consult the magazine in the West of a Saturday, where lots of things I wouldnt know anything about are mentioned, some different ones every day of the week.. Of course you just missed the Bell Tower open house yesterday. and The Pinjarr a Festival and the Ideal home show... There is Sunday Trading at Karrinup Shopping Centre next Sunday in aid of VarietyWA, Telethon and the Heart Foundation.. There is an exhibition of Australian wildflowers painted by.Melbourne artist Christine Johnston continuous to June 19th at Greenhill Galleries , Claremont FREE Cloudscapes Meditations on the Mystical @Elements Art Gallery in Dalkeith,on till next sunday. free wed Sugarpuss with DJ Reece York at The Bird Northbridge 9pm to midnight free lots more exhibitions of artists and such too numerous to mention til sunday all around Perth. if it was wintery weather it would be somewhere to escape the winter. . Guest guest1228
Yanchep national park (not quite free, $9 entry per car I think but if you pay an extra few dollars on the same day at the visitor centre you get a years pass) Loads of free barbies/walks/koalas Whiteman Park- kids splash pool open in summer/adventure playgrounds//bbqs/walks Hillarys Boat Harbour-lots to do for free overlooking the marina/take a picnic/lets the kids play on the beach (playground there too) have a swim Bells Rapids Lesmurdie falls Kings Park Matilda Bay Take the transperth ferry from the Esplanade to South Perth (not free strictly speaking but get a weekend ticket valid on train bus and ferry and might as well be) Too many free days out to mention! Guest Todd Midas
A great resource for things to do at no expense is the things to do for free page of the random idea website! It's got so many ideas that appeal to a variety of people. Even if you don't want to do the idea itself, it may spark a new idea for you to do! Give it a try! A bit too US based to fit this thread I think but interesting anyway
