Give me a break!
Hi we live in Secret Harbour and we spend many a weekend down at Mandurah. We love it. If you want places to eat out you cant beat Mandurah in my opinion. You will find the pubs and restaurants here very child friendly, they may not have all the soft playroom paraphonailia that some do in the UK, but they are fine with children up to about 9pm usually. We live in Secret Harbour and my 10 year old son goes to Comet Bay Primary. We love it in fact I am on the P&C executive so thats how much I love it. There is a daycare facility called the ABC here too for little ones up to age 5. Secret Harbour is an amazing place to bring up small children and would thoroughly recommend it. basicweb
Hi Max We live in Rockingham and love it here. We have beaches all around us, lots of regional parks, including the Shoalwater marine park, penguin island, and a growing foreshore with cafes, top class restaurants and bars. Rockingham does get a bad rep. but I think you need to see it to make up your own mind. Yes there are areas like anywhere else that I would rather not live, and ok there are 'bogans' in the shopping centre on late night Thursdays. Having said that, coming from Manchester I don't feel threatened over here walking down the street at night. The 'bogans' are more likely to say hi to you than mug you! So let it have the bad rep. it may keep people away from this great find that is Rockingham! That's my rant over! Secret Harbour is a new suburb, the downsides are that it is windy (because it's near the coast) and there are not very good transport links. The houses are mainly new, but you may find that you do not get as much garden or outside space as you will in the older suburbs (like Rockingham ) Tracey
Give me a break!
Funny thing is too, that in the beginning being within walking distance to the beach is a very important thing but you soon learn that you drive anyway because you have to carry so much. A full up Esky is bloomin heavy. Add to that chairs, towels, sunshade, surfboards wetsuits :biglaugh:Anywhere in Secret Harbour is near the sea and there is no where in Secret Harbour that is a bad area. If you look at realestate.com.au it gives you a pretty good idea by the prices which are closer to the beach. Its no where near Rockingham, thats a good 15-20 minute drive away and there are lots of suburbs in between. I dont have a problem with Rockingham, we visit there too and have not seen anything offensive, a lot of places get a bad rap for some reason. Rockingham has some lovely cafe's and restaurants and a really good Centro too oh and the car licensing place is there and cinemas too. Guest scottishkiwi
Thanks for the info on SH and Rockingham girls. We'll be arriving in SH on the 30th of this month! Can't believe it actually! Catherine, i see you have older kids in Brisbane. My daughter 19 is going to follow us out in early August. Just wondering what job/entertainment prospects are going to be like for her if we move to Mandurah or stay around SH etc. She will stay with us initially (hopefully for a long time) but it will depend how things work out for her with work etc. I know a lot of young ones go to Brisbane from here (NZ). Hope to see you all soon, Ethel, Brent and Lelia (11), oh and not forgetting Sasha and Lola (two wee dogs).

Dont take the fact that my girls are in Brisbane as a sign, its merely that my Ex Husband lives there and they are spending some much needed time with him as he has been absent for most of their lives. Donna has teenage girls so she is better placed really to tell you what goes on in SH regarding things to do. The thing is Rockingham, Mandurah and Perth itself is so easily accessible that there is lots to do nearby. We arrived on the 1st of July so you will be arriving the same time we did. Make sure you bring some warm gear for the nights but then if you are in NZ you will already know that
