Guest NeilEB
So inspired by a certain Tink (you know who you are), I thought it would be a nice idea to have a thread that details why you are looking to move to Perth (or for those of you out there already, what made you move). Why move to Australia, and why Perth in particular? What are you looking for? What do you think Oz has that the UK doesn't? This thread could serve two purposes. 1) It provides a nice insight into people's desires and wishes 2) It will be nice to reflect back on in the hard times to come - "so that's why we went / are going through all this" It would be good to keep this 'clean' - what I mean by that is minimal discussions of people's lists - if you really feel the need to tell anyone "that's unrealistic" then you can take it to a PM. Let's just have a nice clean thread were we can all remind ourselves, now and in the future, why we are putting ourselves through this! (note to mods - this was going to go in the 'Random Musings' board, but as it hasn't been created yet......)
Guest NeilEB
Ok, so I'll start! In no particular order: 1) A nicer climate, without the country grinding to a halt whenever it snows 2) More space at home 3) Affordable life-style 4) More outdoors living 5) Become more active - take up cycling and walking (see points 1 & 4) 6) More career opportunities 7) More opportunities for my son (and future children hopefully) 8) Excitement and adventure - the ability to say "at least we tried!" phil
LOL. If I were to write my top 8 reasons for having put myself through the stress of moving here, they would be exactly the same! I'd only add one - to be closer to family members.
ali
It's a hard one because we didn't really have any craving to emigrate when we did. We visited my brother in QLD and a couple of months later my hubby said "I could live in Aus" - so could I ... I said and the wheels were set in motion - and here we are. Guest Lucy G
Our reasons are pretty similar although not to be closer to family its actually to be further away!! Only kidding lol! We believe Oz will provide a much better future for our boys than ever England could do now. It is changing so much & getting far to overcrowded so the space will be bliss! To be away from all the class and status competition will also be a godsend! My hubby has also missed both our eldest growing up through having to work so hard so hopefully in Oz due to the fact that he can earn nearly double what he does here we can change that for our youngest son and we can actually get some good quality family together. Summertime here (if you can call it that) our family is transformed. We are always outside in the garden or at the park playing footie, cricket or just larking about and the possibilty of being able to be like that nearly all year round would be wonderful. Hence the Perth location. The climate and relaxed atmosphere just fits us down to a t and we cannot wait to get there. My hubby & I had always dreamed of being able to do it but thought we would have to win the lotto or something to make it happen. But with hard work and patience (I'm still working on that one!) you can do it and just live as you were in the UK (working & paying bills etc) but in a beautiful country. The process is extremely hard but that's what makes Oz so special they don't just open their doors to everyone. If you manage to get through you can spend your days with the other great people that already live there or have already gone through the process too. The beauty of it all is you aren't just there on your hols it will be your home! I shall definitely remember to look back at this post when the going gets tough again Great thread! Guest Har00n
1. Work: Got a job offer, and the job was in perth. 2. Weather: tired of wind and snow. Want to wake up and have the sun shining through the window. It always puts me in a good mood, and the day just feels right! 3. Adventure: Everythings different, and hence new. Ive been travelling with work up and down the country, and am bored. Somehting new/different will be a breath of fresh air! 4. Housing: I'm almost mid-30's and even with all my hard work, i don't think i could afford to own my own home here. At least in OZ, i could own something i'd want to live in, and still be able to save! 5. Outdoor life: I used to love biking everywhere, then i got married. since then i was nagged into getting a car to drive her about in, and life kinda rolled into a blur driving everywhere. i want to have the weather to be able to ride a bike wherever i want, and not have to worry about the mrs getting stuck in rain etc. Infact, i'll buy her acr, and just ride a bike everywhere myself. 6. health : see point 5. Driving everywhere, and working in IT means i dont actually get much exercise. I've put on weight, and am really wanting to be able to get fit, without havign to go to the gym. Simply havign the weather to walk down to shoppign centre etc. I have the will power, i just need the weather. 7: credit rating : As silly as it sounds, i've never had a great credit rating here, even though i pay everything off on time etc. it means those time when i actually NEED a bit extra, say to by a car or go on holiday, its a struggle and i have to pay over the odds for a loan. I've never understood credit ratings, but i figured moving to somehwere new will enable me to re-start a fresh credit rating, and hopefully should i want to get a mortgage or a wee loan, its not gonna be too much a hassle. 8: asia on my doorstep: being an IT guy, i'm into my gadgets. So how great is it that i have asia, the home of great wee gadgets, right on my doorstep! 9: culture: i wanna meet neew people, and experience new cultures. Perth seems to be a right great mix of cultures! i think that covers it. i could also add the chance to go swimming with whalesharks / see real wildlife as opposed to lazy animals in a zoo..... but its not one of the prime reasons for moving...
