Guest maffbell2525
I did not get emails as my 457 was through a lawyer but you can go online anytime and check. I used to wake up about 5 every morning and the first thing I did was check online. The morning it was approved I reread it about 5 times before I was sure it was real. The system posts online as soon as your meds are clear.
Andyrob
Hey I have just had my 457 granted. I didnt need medicals, but the application was submitted online last Friday, and the visa was granted today. It can be processed very quickly, but I applied from onshore, and I believe thats quicker anyway Andy
benandkelly
Congratulations Andyrob. does anyone know why some people need meds yet others dont?
PerthPomToBe
From what i believe you only need meds done if you are from a high risk country (the UK is not considered high risk) or if you are from a high risk profession like a medical background ie nurse or doctor. Our 457's have been in for nearly 2 weeks now and nobody has even mentioned medicals or police checks. hope this helps! Bev

PerthPomToBe
Hopefully you will ok, at the very least it will speed up your application if you dont have to do them. All the best! Bev

Andyrob
thanks Bev. Can anyone give me a definitive list of what docs need to be certified please It's not a definitive list, but I can advise what I needed. And it was much less involved than I thought to get a 457. The company I am working for handled everything - they sent me the forms (mostly filled out already) and I had to complete specifics (like the number of the visa I was on at the time, health questions) and send it back along with my CV, copy of qualifications, copy of passport and reference letters from my previous employer. I also had to send proof of health care cover - but i registered with medicare when i was on my tourist visa, and a copy of the medicare card was sufficient. But NONE of them were certified copies, which did surprise me. I sent it all back to them on the Tuesday, got an email confirming that the application had been lodged on the Thursday and the visa was granted the following week. As I said before, I applied for my 457 onshore. I don't know if it's any different doing it offshore. But I know that if applying offshore you need to prove the healthcare cover also, but you can't register for medicare until you are in Oz - so it needs to be a private policy. benandkelly
Thanks for the info Andyrob. I know we will need some extra paperwork as we have 3 kids coming with us (2 stepkids & 1 biological kid for me). Also I have a child from a previous relationship who will not be coming as I have not seen her in over a year and sadly I have no idea where she is as her 'mum' decided to take off with her
