phil
We've had to pay a bond up front (one month's rent that goes into a government-approved fund). Our rent is fortnightly (seems quite usual here, a lot of salaries are fortnightly too) so we had to pay that up front too.

Guest texasaggie
Could someone explain to this Texas gal how rent is paid in Australia? We pay our rent and other bills (Utilities, car, etc.) once per month. There is rarely any bills that are paid bi-weekly. Is bi-weekly the same as fortnightly? Guest Stu
Biweekly & fortnightly are the same. Generally rent is advertised in weekly rates, however you can pay it either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, it depends on what you agree with the letting agent. Generally things such as pay, social security etc are paid fortnightly. Things like insurance, loans, interest are charged monthly however you can contact the company and change it to suit your pay periods. I haven't come across a company who wouldn't, however some of them will only change the payment structure for a set time period after which you have to remember to contact them again. I pay almost everything through BPay which is available through online banking and you can set up one-off or regular payments. All very flexible. Hope that helps Stu
