For anyone that is looking at state sponsorpship etc some interesting news:

Perth will be demoted to regional city classification under the federal government's desperate plan to attract skilled migrants to service the booming economy.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen announced this morning the WA capital would be included in a list of regional employment hardship areas, alongside cities in the Pilbara and Kimberley, that would be given special privileges, including first access to the country's 16,000 sponsored visa places for foreign workers already in Australia.

Under the Regional Sponsorship Migration Scheme, Perth businesses will for the first time be able to sponsor workers with lower skill sets, such as those in hospitality, scaffolding and child care, and those employees would be subject to lower entry levels.

That's great! There were some gossips about this some months ago. I'm coming in November holding 475 visa and hope that government will oficially classify Perth as regional by that time.

Hi we too are coming in November on a 475. I have contacted WA to see if this is applicable to our visa class as it may just be for the RSMS scheme. I will post their repsonse when i get it, fingers crossed though.

Hi just an update this does not apply to the 475 visa, bad news so having to live regional still stands. It is only applicable to the employer sponsored visa. Have checked with our agent who confirmed this.RegardsMichelle

Thanks Michelle. Bad news but maybe it is for the better. So I'm moving to Bunbury.

Hi Littlem

I'm new to Perth Poms, I've recently been granted a 475 visa and my family and I are hoping to move to Mandurah later this year. Would be great to keep touch. I also contacted the State Migration Centre earlier this week regarding the recent reclassification of Perth to regional, they've confirmed that it's only applicable to RSMS so no change for 475 holders.

Regards

Sue

Michelle and Sue why are you planning to go in Mandurah? As far as I know Bunbury is more young family oriented place. Seek.com also shows more vacancies in Bunbury area. Mandurah is more for retired people. Yes, Mandurah is closer to Perth, but is it worth it? BTW I've never been to Mundura and Bunbury so it is just my impression made by different forum topics.

So, it is my turn to ask WA authorities)

Hi egorgp many thanks for that very interesting, it's funny my agent said no but my reply from Wa last month stated that there would be an update on 21 august on the web to answer my question so this could be it. Keep in touch with any confirmation you get and I will too.

Fingers crossed

Michelle

hello egor, i have read this new posting in the website and as i undertand it, 475 visa is possible. my fiance and i are planning to migrate to Perth (his brother is there) by next year. however, i've asked our agent if we could apply for a 475visa (relative sponsor) but the answer is no since Perth is not a designated area. she advised me to go for a 176 visa instead (state sponsorship) to meet the passing mark of 65..

will be waiting for your post on WA authorities' response to your query..thanks!

Thanks Goat for your comment! I'm not making judgement. I'm just trying to choose a better place to live and work in WA outside Perth area and ask people who've already made a decision regarding place of living. Why they choose Mandurah? Being close to Perth means nothing for 475 visa holders as you are not allowed to work within Perth area. Of course these places are different from each other and you are not 100% sure where to go being at the moment on the other site of the Earth. Why on pomsinoz and other forums Bunbury got more positive reviews? maybe Bunbury's people just more active on these websites :-)

Just got a response from WA Skilled Migration. They anticipate that DIAC's new rules and regulations will be implemented in mid-late September. So we should just wait for the new announsment.

Had a reply from my migration agent and he says that it a very strong possibility that Perth will become regional and that they were told of the possible upcoming changes in July but he said it might be as late as November when they are implemented - fingers crossed as I have just got my 475 visa. This would make life so much easier....
