Guest Want to be in Oz
Hi I hope someone out there can help. I'm a secondary school teacher and want to emigrate to Perth. I have 6 years full time work experience but the last few years, I've only been working part-time (14 hours roughly for 2 days a week). The requirements for the 175 visa are that you have been working for a minimum of 20 hours per week for the 12 months prior to applying. So obviously this is a problem for me. I can't just increase my hours due to the recession and cutbacks. However, I do have a step-sister in Perth, would she be able to sponsor me? How does this work? Any advice would be appreciated. ali
I don't know a lot about family sponsorship - but he's a link to the immigration website fact sheet http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/29overview_family.htm It may be worth you speaking to a migration agent to check out your options. Guest Want to be in Oz
Thank you all for replying. I've read the info available online and it seems I would only be able to get sponsored if I was the last remaining relative, partner or carer. I don't meet this criteria so there goes another idea! Thanks x
StudentInDebt
Is there an hours requirement for a 176 visa? From what I've read you could be sponsored by your step-sister for this without relying on a remaining-relative visa you just have to have worked in your occupation (or any occupation on the SOL) for 12 of the last 24 months. Can you point me in the direction of where you've seen the hours requirement?
Guest Want to be in Oz
Hi Thanks for the reply StudentInDebt. I don't know if there's an hours requirement for the 176 visa - can anyone confirm? I was however advised by 2 immigration experts that I must work a minimum of 20 hours per week for 12 out the last 24 months for the 175 visa. This is a requirement of the skills assessing body AITSL for teaching. Although, when I read the requirments myself I understood that experience over the last 10 years counts and I have worked for 6 years full-time and 3 years part-time. If anyone is knowledge enough to confirm the correct info, I'd be most grateful. Also, can anyone confirm that I can definitely apply for a 176 visa and get sponsored by my step-sister? I thought the 176 was for state sponsorship, but that shows you how much I know. Thanks in advance for your help.
StudentInDebt
Requirements for Relative Sponsorship for 176 Visa I've not seen an hours requirement for the 12/24 requirement for a visa written down. The assessing body for teachers considers 20 hours per week to be the minimum they will consider part-time but they are giving a skills assessment which should take into account your last 10 years, I would have thought that your full-time teaching experience would be sufficient to get a positive assessment. There is no mention on the DIAC website about whether you should be part-time or full-time or on Page 8 of the DIAC General Skilled Migration booklet. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to help - good luck.
Guest Want to be in Oz
Thank you for the reply. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that I would qualify. I'm just thrown by the migration consultants telling me I wouldn't. I think I'm going to apply for the skills assessment anyway and see how it goes as it's only a few hundred pounds. If I get that then I don't see any reason why I wouldn't get the visa. Please if anyone out there can confirm if this right, I'd be grateful. x
