Hi everybody, just wondering if anyone can pass on any top tips on motor insurance? Do firms generally recognise UK no claims bonuses? Grateful for any particular insurance co recommendations. Many many thanks, Ali x

One thing that caught me out, watch for an "inexperienced driver" clause in the policy. I had my first ever bump a few weeks after getting here - instead of the nicely shown $400 excess, they whacked on another $500 for being an "inexperienced driver". Makes no odds how long you've been driving accident-free in the UK, it's how long you've been in Oz that they said meant I was inexperienced. C'est la vie.

To top my day off, I picked up my car, Monty, from the repairers today and although they've nicely fixed up the bump at the front, they've put a lovely new dent in the back. So if taking a car for repair, be sure to take pictures all the way round and definitely check the whole car if picking it up from repair! That's my lessons learned! To be fair, the repairer admitted it was their fault and they're going to sort it.

your car rego covers you for third party , ive seen on this site some people think it means third party insurance , it dosnt it means third party injury , so if you are in an a accident and its your fault the other party can claim for injuries on you car rego insurance , i had an old man hit me years ago and he thought he was insured with third party , turns out he had no insurance coverage at all he had totally misunderstood it .

I've just redone my insurance. I ended up going with Youii, by far and away the cheapest but with most of the extras included.

They did say they took UK experience into account, however I am not sure if was just for the premium or if that would result in me being classed as an experienced driver.

Hi, I just insured with AAMI - found them the cheapest for both House Contents and car insurance - I gave them my details from Ireland but I don't think they were really that interested. I insured a 2009 Hyundai Tucson and I'm driving almost 30 years - all things that are taken into consideration.

Best of luck with it and safe driving!
