Guest Lucy G
Hi, My eldest son who is 10 has recently become hooked on scootering and bmx down our local skate park & he wonders whether this is popular in WA? He has a Madd Gear Pro Scooter which we understand is Australian but all I can seem to find out is that it is mainly in Melbourne (I think). I have searched Google over and over and can't find anything for him in WA. We are moving to South Perth in April 2012 and he really wants to get into his scootering more out there if its available. Can anyone help???? Any reference for good skate parks or reference that there are other scooterers (I don't think that is correct term :l) ). Anything would be really helpful so he can take a look for himself. Thanks guys. Lucy
ali
My son enjoys going to the skate park - a lot of suburbs will have them.
Guest Lucy G
Thank you Ali thats just what I needed to hear. It's a fairly new thing where we live at mo & I'm sure there will be lots of other things that will take his attention when we arrive but you know how it is.... this is his current passion so he just needed reassurance he would still be able to carry it on out there so this will please him. ali
My son is 11 (12 next week) and last school holidays he spent practically every day at our local park. He really enjoyed it and I have to be honest and say the boys there who were older were quite welcoming, showed him some tricks etc - he loved going
Guest Lucy G
Perfect sounds similar to the one he goes to - he is 10 this month. This will def please him thank you. Just out of curiosity - do they go on bmx's, scooters or skateboards? x
ali
Hi Lucy, My boy tells me that they do everything http://www.lookatwa.com.au/FunStuff/skateparks.html
Arwen
There aren't that many and not all suburbs have them. Kinross is a popular one but sadly they seem to be a hangout for trouble, I won't let my teenage daughter go there. I can't speak for other ones but Kinross is one to be avoided. ali
It'll make him happier Lucy knowing that if he wants to he can do the things he likes here. Anything to make the move easier lol. when we first started talking about Aus, my daughter was 10 - she burst into tears telling us we were making her leave her whole life behind ...... she's now 16 and tells us how glad she is to have had her teenage years here
Guest texasaggie
I just got back to the states after spending two weeks in Perth looking for places to live and to learn more about the area. Coming from a coastal area in the states where skating is popular I was so impressed by the opportunities to do the same in Perth. Almost every neighborhood offered some kind of little park. The website link above shows pictures of all the parks and their locations. There are so many fun things to do in Perth that I believe anybody including a 10 year old will enjoy. Good luck. Guest Lucy G
Thank you so much Ali & Texasaggie. He is really excited about going and we have always plugged the "better quality of life" and the outdoor opportunities we just don't have here. Its really great getting firsthand personal experience - a lot better than any books or google can provide! I know he will be sooo much happier in Oz and as you said Ali when he looks back he will really appreciate that fact that we have scrimped, scraped & sacrificed so much the past year or so to get there but at the minute its just words and images to him. My youngest 2 will grow up not knowing anything different thankfully! x
ali
We'd been here a year Lucy when my son suddenly asked at the dinner table if we were still on holiday (he'd been going to school and everything). I said "no we live here now" and he just said "cool" lol. Whilst WA has great beaches there is so much more to do
Guest Bob Tonnor
Hi I think you will find that just about everywhere has a skatepark, i reckon he will probably be spoilt for choice, we lived down in Canberra for a while and oh my, do they have some funky parks down there!
