arghh.gifOk, where to start.... my OH is a bricklayer by trade, he passed all skills assessment, we have found we are 10 points short for 175 and 176 visa. my OH is dyslectic and barely reads and writes he was told to sit ielts test to gain the extra points but when he went for test he couldnt said couldnt do itno.gif.

so now we are in the worse situation, i have been reading up about 475 visa, we have family out there mother and father in law, sis in law and bro in law... the bro would be the one to sponsor us on this 475 visa and that then gives us our 10 points we need.... but we have two young children and despeartly want to live in perth with our family, can we live there? i need to know any info on this visa and wether this is our best option. does anyone know also how long this visa takes to grant as we have so many hold ups that we just want to be out there! also i know there may be others out there in similar situations so if you have any advise or questions feel free to ask.

thank you in advance.hug012.gif

Hi Laura & Brad,

This won't be much help i know but my thoughts are to maybe speak to a couple of migration agents to get their professional opinions and advice. I believe there should be a few who still do a free 10 min or so consultation, ths should be all you need to get a difinitive "yes it's possible" or "sorry you can't". I think the agent who we went with trueblue migration may still do this, not sure as it was a while ago, 2007 when we did our free consultations.

Hope you manage to get thing sorted, all the best

Hi Laura & Brad,

You could apply for 475 WA regional sponsorship for the extra 10 points rather than family sponsorship. We are in a similar situation - We only have 55 points and my partner refuses to take ILETS as he isn't very good at spelling or reading. So we are going to apply for regional sponsorship for the extra points (we wanted state sponsorship and to live in the Perth Met area but state sponsorship only gives 5 points!). When I looked in to this we could basically live anywhere in WA apart from the Perth Met area - There are some lovely areas, we were looking at Mandurah. However, I would also say to double check with an agent or on the internet as I am sure that Perth has recently been classed as regional!

475 Regional Sponsorship has some conditions attached to it - It is a provisional visa (lasts 3 years i think). During the 3 years you have to live in a regional area for at least 1 year and work in a regional area for at least 2 years. If you satisfy these requirements you can then go on to apply for permanent residence.

Hope this helps

Sue

Unfortunately the Regional classification for Perth doesn't apply to 475 visas - Migration WA

Have you had a look at the regional areas around Perth? Mandurah is on the doorstep of Perth pretty much and carrying on down the highway the South West is really nice, about 2-3 hours drive from Perth and set to be a boom area as the FIFO workers are moving away from Perth.
