phil
We've got a friend coming to visit from the UK in a few weeks and are thinking about heading down to Margaret River for a couple of days (Monday through Thursday kind of thing). Having not been there ourselves yet I'm after any recommendations on things to see and do, any hidden gems etc in/around Margaret River. And also if anyone can recommend any accommodation - we'll need two bedrooms (one double, one single) in a house/cottage/chalet kind of thing (no apartments), quietness, somewhere to sit outside, preferably a little way away from any hustle and bustle (want to get away from it all), have a bbq and a kitchen so we can feed ourselves and preferably be near/in a lovely vineyard. Near beach or having a pool or spa would be nice too
jackboots
Hi Phil , we went for the same sort of break in July and loved it ... we stayed at Margeret River hideaways loved it!!....... http://www.margaretriverfarmstay.com/ very quiet cottage great for us as we have a child and a Dog .. we would also like to try this one next time ..http://www.silversprings.com.au/index.html not sure if thats your thing , but Margeret River is lovely and is really good for a meal out etc reminds me of a ski resort minus the snow .. if you want somewhere that you can walk from a night out id stay there itself or even Dunsborough its very easy to get out and about but lots of driving Prevelly Beach is just along from Margeret River say ten mins in the car if that .. we would have liked to have done more , but thats for next time ! phil
Thanking you! We've got one of those Entertainment Books for this year and there seems to be a lot of good offers for places down there through that. Probably going to book something next week so if anyone's got any recommendations we should consider please let me know.
verystormy
Margaret River Hideaway. Have been several times and always great. There are half a dozen brand new cottages scattered through woodland just outside town on the same road as the brewery.
Guest Stu
We've stayed in the River glen chalets, it wasn't my first choice but we were very impressed. About 10 mins walk into the centre of margeret river, passing a 'roo or two on the way We've also stayed at Prevelley. If you fancy walks along the beach it's ideal, and there's little local shop as well. Surfer's point is just by Prevelly (where the championships were held) if you're up for that sort of thing. There are more wineries than you'll be able to get around. A lot of them have restaruants attached. We spent a nice afternoon to Sacarcen's but I'm sure there's lots good or better. We've also been to the caves in the area. A reasonable mornings activity prior to the wineries, but I wouldn't plan to go to them all (one cave is much the same as the next after a couple of hours). Phone up Margaret River tourist info, they've got lots of tours etc
phil
... we would also like to try this one next time ..http://www.silversprings.com.au/index.htmlWe ended up trying out one of the Silversprings cottages - thanks for pointing us there. Lovely little cottage. They've got another brand new one in addition to the ones on their website now. A nice family run the estate. The cottages are very secluded from one another and a fair distance from any "civilisation". We've not got a dog, but they were very pet-friendly.Next time we go, hopefully the weather will be better!
