Akasully2
We had our first Christmas in Oz last year whilst touring around on holiday. I couldn't get my head round all these snow themed decorations hanging off people's roofs. It looked so wrong in the baking heat. I think they needed a new twist on Christmas, show Santa hanging out with brightly coloured tropical animals not snowmen. The heat seemed to have got to a few of the inflatable santas and they were looking decidedly limp as they climbed to the non-existent chimneys! On the big day itself we went to to Surfers paradise beach, stunningly beautiful looking out to sea. The world seemed to have come out to picnic and chill on the beach. Lovely atmosphere but not exactly Christmassy. Along the motorway, McDonalds were open and it was heaving. I had a rant to OH about how wrong it was to have McDonalds open on such a special day but he pointed out that as so many people travel around it was needed. He told me to stop huffing and just accept it was a different culture. Much to my embarrassment, later that day we were one of the people having a coffee in there whilst on route back to the hotel! Hypocrite! The shame of it!

jamesw
Christmas number 6 coming up. We will still go to the beach around 10 for a couple of hours, then go back home and either sit outside on the patio or inside with the air con on. Finally, Christmas dinner of Roast Turkey with all the trimming in the evening. And no, it does not feel like Christmas when it is 30+ degrees! verystormy
Haven't decided yet. Will probably do the Christmas turkey. Though the wife would rather do a load of sea food. But, am goingbto get more organized this year - last year I left buying the turkey till the last minute and they only had huge ones left. We ended up with a 11kg turkey for two of us and a chihuahua. Bibbs
The wife and I do our gifts between us on Xmas Eve. On Xmas day, we head to whoever is "hosting" early with food and drinks (year before was - 10 steaks, and 50+ cans of JimBeam). Usually about 20/30 people arrive, close friends and family. The women stay indoors in the AC and gossip over champagne, the blokes get drunk, talk rubbish, and lounge in the pool & hot tub. Gifts are handed out at lunch, in a big circle. BBQ fired up for mid afternoon. Disco and music in the evening. Get a lift home and collect the car the next day. Then it's recover to do the same thing (without gifts) a week later. Candygirl
This will be four first one in Perth. Our container is due to arrive in Freo on 17/11 so by the time it clears Customs, I reckon we will be spending Christmas unpacking. We are also hoping that friends have made plans to include us. If not, then we will go with the Hooligans down to the beach and chill. I think we will go for the seafood or Barbie. I am not cooking a roast dinner in the heat for no one. This^ Like many we do Christmas dinner in June/July. The seafood fest has become our new Christmas tradition, starting with a fruits de mer type platter and then prawns or lobsters on the BBQ. Sealanes do these squid/salmon/scallop pinwheel type things that the kids love so everyone's happy.
Chardy
Don't get the Christmas in July thing, we got to July and thought nope it doesn't feel right so we will do a normal roast on 25th dec as per last year after Christmas Eve on the beach and followed by Boxing Day on the beach !!
