Guest echo
Hi - to those already in Perth, can anyone give me an idea of the cost of utility bills per quarter over there please? E.g. in Melbourne I'm paying around $300 for my gas bill during the Winter months but only $100 during Summer. I recognise it varies for everyone but I'd welcome some feedback as I'm trying to work out a budget. For reference my figure is based on a family of four (two young children) in a large house. I'm guessing water will be expensive in Perth although if renting presumably the landlord pays the rates... Cheers all

Thanks Stacey that's really helpful, Can I ask do you have air con? Also will we pay water rates in a rental? Is your broadband included in your phone costs and do you have mobiles? Also what about home contents insurance, rego and car insurance? Petrol costs seem high considering petrol is cheaper but then suppose you have to double the distances you would usually drive in the UK. Are you entitled to Medicare yet? I know we will only have limited access being on a 457 visa and |I need to get insurance but it's so expensive for temporary residents! As for the wine...great price, the cask wine looks even cheaper! Pete will have to brew his own beer, he drinks too much to pay them prices, lol. Do you find takeaway food much cheaper..our lot live on pizza and maccy D! Thanks for your help, just trying to do the sums again and hoping we will survive out there! Guest guest1337
Yes we have air con , couldn't do without it, although not used it this year! yet! Cost us about $2500 to have a suitable reverse cycle split system put in! Water rates in a rental can vary, some landlords pay all(ours did), whilst others pay a percentage, you will probably need to negotiate that? Petrol costs us alot as Andy travel 100km to work and back everyday and drives a V6 Commodore! We are PR on skilled visa (136)so we get full medicare. Our Broadband cost $70 per month for the top package. Car rego is expensive, $400 to $500 a year, but depends on the car you have, and the rego is also third party insurance, it's your choice if you want fully comp. We just pay as you go mobiles, cheap to buy unless you have a fancy one! We're not really take away food eaters, I'm a Chef!!!(Andy) Most food here is the same price as u.k. Homebrew is very popular here, lots of places to buy the stuff you need!!! Where & When you are you arrive down under? Hope this covers everything? Guest Catpat
Hi Fiona Good luck with your move to Perth! We are on a 457 visa and fly out 20th April, so any advice from you we would really appreciate it on what we need to sort out before we fly out! We are from Brighton in East Sussex. Your questions were good, as this gives an idea of the costs when we arrive. Fortunately for me I have a sister in Willetton who has two boys although its always good to get advice from someone who is just moving out! When you arrive please let us know who you get on. Have a safe trip - the Patersonsxx
