Druid
Signup with HiFX or similar online, you can do all the transferring you like for free online, the AU banks charge a fee for the forex transaction, but no UK fees, also be carefull, I fell into the trap, I opened up a ANZ bank account up here in the UK over the phone no problem, I sent them a copy of my passport and thought that was it, I wired money over to Aus, it showed up in my account, everthing was so easy, too easy, then I needed to pay a deposit on a rental from the UK, no problem I thought, I will transfer from my ANZ to the agent, found out I could not access my money, I called ANZ helpline, they wanted me to walk into any branch and do the 100 point Proof of Identity check, but I'm in the UK, how do I walk into a branch, so now my money is stuck in Aus until I do the 100 POI check, I cant get to it
scoon101
Hi Steph, We've only been here a few days but our experience with NAB has been good, we used Hifx to transfer our £'s to our new NAB account. Their customer service was second to none and after chatting to one of their advisers they really but our minds at rest and things worked out really well. Walked into NAB in Perth they had all our cards and cheque books waiting for us. They have an immigration specialist at the branch and she was a mind of knowledge and dealt with us impeccably. They do charge you to use other banks ATMs but you don't pay a monthly charge for your account. Good luck with the move! Guest Daz0901
Hi There I would set up an account with moneycorp to do the transfer to NAB as they both link in with each other and save you money

Druid
Just to make things harder for you but TorFX are also good, but I find Hifx so easy, the online banking is so simple
JaynBev
We have used Smart Currency Exchange & Moneycorp so far & both have been brilliant. it's worth ringing round a couple when you are ready to do the transfer as we got almost 1% improvement in the rate when we transfered £5k - it paid for our bank fees :-)
