Druid
Once over in Oz on an employer sponsored 457 visa, how long do you have to wait till you can apply for permanent residency/skilled migration visa? Having a 457 doesnt help get PR, you need to talk to your sponsor about sponsoring for an ENS or RSMS PR visa, you can do this immediately, if you dont want your current 457 sponsor to be involved you can apply for WA state sponsorship or even apply for a general skilled migration visa, you can do this at any time, even now and have 2 visa applications running at the same time, just let DIAC know what you are doing, if you apply for a 457 and and ENS 121, when your 457 gets issued the application for the 121 will get cancelled, best talk to a migration agent first. New Life Down Under
You can apply for permanent residency whenever you like. A 457 is not a gateway to permanency although may help achieve the criteria to obtain an RSMS or ENS subject to your skills/occupation. Check the various SOL's to see whether or not your occupation is on any of the lists. Subject to the duration of your 457, you may be given a Bridging Visa in the interim if your 457 has expired and you have applied for an alternative visa.
