portlaunay
After 4 months our container arrived this week, woo hoo! So far on the list of crap that really should have gone to the great landfill in the sky we have; Half used clingwrap and aluminium foil (like they don't have that in Oz, duh!) 6 half used tea lights without the metal holders 3 lids and no saucepans 4 odd socks 2 broken lights (broken before we came) A wardrobe door (the wardrobe was binned, the door in the garage, the movers packed everything in line of sight) What's the most useless thing you bought? We could make a list of stuff you should leave at home as a warning to others.....
phil
We had a lodger back in Sheffield and some of her stuff got shipped as we left the packers unattended for a while. Was useful to find half a kitchen roll and two loaf tins when we unpacked!

Guest Clarebear
Am in the process, I already know I have packed stuff I will never use. Sometimes it's easier to stick it in a box and 'deal with it later'. I've packed some solar powered christmas lights that I know don't work here...I thought I'd give them another chance in Oz! elsie3
We found one dining chair seat (we'd decided to leave the table and chairs behind because I didn't like them! Big regret now.) A bag full of conkers, and one of sycamore seeds ('helicopters') - oops! I think we were lucky that our stuff came the week before Christmas - I think Customs must have slacked off a bit! 15 socks in random places - have a child who sheds socks as she walks through the door. Also found a bottle of mulled wine that must have been hiding somewhere.
portlaunay
I don't feel so bad now. After all the horror stories I read I'm surprised the conkers and seeds got through although they're probably bio-tagged in some way and a group of Australian ninja's are hiding in your garden just waiting for you to plant them out. elsie3
Ooer, hadn't thought of that! Wonder if Mortein will have any effect on Aussie Ninjas....? Didn't mean to bring them, (honest!), but I do like to think that I could possibly be responsible for bringing the art of playing conkers to the Northern suburbs in years to come.
