The Rooney's
Hi , we are a family of 5 from Dublin. Hoping to move out sept/oct 2012. My husband is a head chef and is doing his assessment in a few weeks. My worry is I have been on the recruitment sites every night to keep an eye on whats available, but there doesnt seem to be alot from what i can see. He has 15 yrs experience and to be honest the wages in Ireland seem to be higher than in Perth. Could anyone who is in Perth now have any info on wether or not the hospitality industry is low paid in general , as I am even looking for positions of chefs in fifo but cannot see any advertised anywhere. I am a fashion retail store manager , there is a little more for me out there by the looks of it but still pay seems quite low . If anyone could guide me on the reality of this that would be a great help as I am stressed out at the mo with the thoughts of paying so much for the visa that we may not be able to afford to live comfortably! Thanks in advance x Jenny.
deanhewitt
Hi there things change all the time with recruitment here and if you are interested in FIFO to the mines for catering then there are usually plenty of positions. With regards to retail management there are some positions but with overseas employees then you may be expected to start at someting lower than you are used to and then work your way back up. If you let me know when you are thinking of coming over then hopefully I may be able to be of assistance.
Guest Bambulka
Hi there, My husband is a chef and he has landed a fab job working for an airline company (they make foods for airlines). The pay is excellent, in fact, I've seen FIFO positions for chefs advertised recently at $30-$35.99 per hour and he is earning more than that. He is in a management role though. From what I've seen, chefs earn anywhere between $45k upwards. $45k is quite low though and I would imagine your hubby would be able to get more than that. Did you look on SEEK? There are loads of positions there advertised for chefs every day. Anyway, if you want more info feel free to pm me. Take care :-)
