nadia and scott
hi there everyone, just a quick post!! this is day 4 after arriving on new years day. We flew with emirates who were great, flight was not as bad as i thought it would be. We are staying in Secret Harbour till sunday then move up to Clarkson. Everything good so far, woke up this morning to thunder and lightning, now its glorious sunshine!! Viewed a property in Kinross yesterday - not impressed, it looked like a squalor. shame as the outside and neigbourhood looked lovely. Going to get passports stamped tomorrow as this needs to be done for transferring drivers licence. So much to organise and enjoy ourselves at the same time!! Kids are loving it as are we. so far so good!!

nadia and scott
Hi there , the passport needs stamped if you want to get an australian drivers license. Went up to perth city today in and out in 5 mins job done, then off to have a cuddle off a koala bear!!! Medicare tomorrow!!
deanhewitt
when you register for medicare you will get a paper print out temporary one. The staff will probably tell you that you can use this to get your licence but infortunately you can't, you need to wait for your actual card to come through. Guest Plumber_Paul
Hi Nadia and Scott, I'm arriving in Perth in February and will also looking at getting my drivers licence transferred. Please could you enlighten me as to what it means to 'get your passport stamped'? Good luck with your new lives! Thanks, Paul
nadia and scott
Hi paul, its really straight forward you need to have your visa sticker put in your passport, you can either do this at australia house in london or at 836 wellington street west perth 6005, it took 5 mins. The drivers license requires this and 2 forms of ID inclusive of medicare card and bank card. will let you know how that goes. Where are you locating to? JaynBev
Nadia n Scott, Thanks for this, now I know which stamp etc you meant, we validated our visa on our reccie trip last year, so it's just Medicare we need to sort. Did you do your Tax File No online before you flew or have you sorted it over there? cheers J n B

We have been considering Secret harbour but i've heard conflicting news on Comet bay and the ratings seem high (138 in WA), have you any experience of the schools in the area? also are there any home and land developments in the secret harbour area? Michelle J
We went to have a look at Maranatha Christian School (fee-paying) and also Comet Bay College, my son Matt, aged 13 much preferred the look and sound of Comet Bay, there seems to be much more on offer for the kids. Apparently when friends of ours came over a few years ago the school had just opened and there were a large number of unruly kids there and no uniform in place. It has improved greatly now, they have a new Headteacher who seems to have turned it round, kids now wear uniform, they are no longer allowed out of school during the day and they have tightened up on the catchment area to limit who goes. There's plenty of building going on here, I'm sure you would not struggle for that side of things, there are developments going up everywhere. Hope that helps. I have a WA SS visa so after a couple of weeks I'll be heading over to Perth by myself. We have limited funds, so my wife and kids will stay in Brisbane until I find work and a house to rent. I have temporary accomodation organised in Kalamunda with a family friend. I haven't really got any preference for any suburb, but probably NOR and depends where I find work. Hopefully it'll go well and the girls won't have to wait too long before they come over to Perth. I'm feeling pretty confident. We're all very excited for our new beginnings ...
