ohinever
Hi all! I was originally in Perth in 98-99, then 00-01, then back for only a month in 03. I'm a doc, and am thinking about heading to Perth again on semi-permanent (at least) basis. I keep telling my partner how much she would enjoy it out there (and I can't think of anyone I know more suited to the Perth lifestyle than her), but have heard rumours from friends/returnees etc. that Perth now is very different from Perth then. I know financially things have changed ( I turned down the chance to buy an apartment on Marine Parade, Cott. for $300k in 2001 - doh! ) but in what other way do you long term Poms think there is variation? I'm running out of good reasons to stay in U.K. now (friends apart) but wanted to factor any differences into my decision. I may nip over late Feb for a nose anyway for ten days or so, but of course that isn't really long enough to get a feel for a place. So, what say you? ali
How do your freinds say it's changed ... we've been here 5 years (in 3 days) and had loved the lifestyle we have here which feels very laid back to the one we had in the UK
ohinever
Thanks for reply. Mainly that Perth is in general much busier, and of course that the cost of living has at least doubled!
moirclan
well the population has grown a lot since then and problems like shortage of rentals , busy roads heavy traffic in peak hour etc tend to happen because of the population growth , the govt are always behind the eight ball !!!!, the cost of living has gone through the roof as well but that seems to be the same the world over , dont beat your self up about marine tce , i knocked back a block ocean front in illuka in 2000 for $240,000 thought by the time i put a house on it i would nevr see my money back !@#$%^ i could do a lot more than kick my self !!
