Pubs and Restaurants/Australia Day

Hi there,

I am coming over next week for a few weeks before hopefully moving over in May. Can anyone recommend any good pubs/restaurants in Perth City Centre.

We will be staying in Clarkson so can anyone also recommend any in that area too.

Can anyone also recommend any MUST DO/GO/SEE on Australia Day. We have a 13 ear old son and want to make it as exciting as possible.

Take Care everyone.

Not sure about clarkson, but the australia day skyworks (fireworks) on the river about 8pm are impressive. It can be a bit of nightmare getting to an area to see them, however if you can get into Kings park, or the foreshore in south perth you will be an excellent view.

Not sure if Hillaries Boat harbour still does a small fireworks themselves, as they have done so in the past. I just used Opera search engine to search whats on in Perth that day. If you are intending to go to kings Park you will have to make your way there earlier in the morning, as Aussies get very organized and some streets are closed from 12pm lunch time, but here is a list of other things that are on..Thursday, 26 January

Australia Day Swim 2012

The Havaianas 2012 Australia Day Thong Challenge

Oz Day BBQ - The Byrneleigh

Fringe World Festival 2012

Australia Day Rooftop BBQ

Reece Mastin - Burswood Theatre Perth

Fly the Flag Festival Rockingham

Australia Day @ The Bakery

Extraordinary Stories from the British Museum exhibition

John Cleese - Regal Theatre Perth

Log into enjoyperth dot com dot au to find whats on in Perthany day of the month and year. A new website for me, as I did`nt know it existed, but then I don`t know everything....

Why not book a/some surf lessons at Scarborough beach?

Cycle along the river/coast? My son (8), and I ride from Fremantle up to Cottesloe or take the train/drive into the city and ride along the river or just explore the city. It's lovely at 6am on a Sunday.

Hire a kayak? - There's a place right at the end of Langley park in the city where you pick them up and paddle along the Swan with the city reaching up beside you.

Book a creative day course at the Fremantle Art Centre?

Kite surfing lessons?

Restaurants? I've heard good things about Neil Perry's Rockpool in the Burswood complex and there's a Nobu there too. (Which I hope is better than the one in London ) At some point you have to buy a Long Mac from Gino's on the cap strip and take the corner table so you have a view up Market Street. Sit and watch the world go by and if you're lucky you'll see one of the massive ships gliding in or out of the dock, looming above the train station.

Dinner at Cicerello's in Freo fishing harbour or a beer in the Little Creatures brewery.

Take away Fish and Chips in Cottesloe and watch the sunset (but don't blink or you'll miss it)
