leedslass123
Morning Everyone hope you had a great Australia Day whether it was your 1st or one of many! I was up late last night watching the Skyworks on TV (the firework show in the city on Australia Day, which were fab by the way) Anyway just after on ABC channel there was a programme following 9 people that came to Oz as ten pound poms, a few during the war years and again in the 60's on the 2nd migration drive. It was such a fab programme and it really struck a chord with me as I am sure that it would with 99% people who have made the move or are thinking of the move. Even all those years ago the fears, upheaveal and the reality were pretty much the same. The fear of the unknown, the excitement of a new life, the reality of leaving the old one behind and friends and family etc, the change in culture and climate, phew! Just as now a days there were those who thrived and loved every minute, those who took a little more hard work and persuasion to enjoy and eventually settle and then there were those who couldn't wait to get back on the boat and leave. So wherever you are in the migration process, whatever you are feeling before, during or after the move always take comfort in that you are not alone and there is always someone out there who will be feeling exactly the same as you do and there is always someone out there, or on this forum who you can talk to. The way I alwys look at it is that in life you never get anywhere thinking "what if" or "I wish I would have" We have all been there at some point. The show made me incredibly proud to be a Perth Pom and to know that us Brits have and continue to, along with many other countries and migrants, help to make Australia what it is today. Living along side (in my opinion) some of the nicest, most welcoming people in the world in this great country and feels proud to call it home.
