I would gladly arrange a "meet" if I was there and if anybody does arrange one please save a place for me!! Hope to be out sometime in the future but all depends on the job situation with my OH.

Cassie , I'm sure (if your daughter is anything like mine, 10 - 12 age group) she is not running around getting under peoples feet when you take her out socially with you, It wouldn't personally bother me if someone brought their child along but I suppose some people - especially men might prefer adult talk, as long they are not shouting, swearing, fighting and telling filthy jokes then being surrounded by adults isn't all bad. I hope you find as more "older" mums get to know one another then friendships will develop.

I'm quite envious I can't join up with you all, for me there is always room for new friendships and just think of that horrible cold cold winter you have coming.

I don't know if you have heard of this one but my son said to me at the age of 17 "Mum, you don't know anything" but when he was 25 he said "Mum, I am surprised about how much you have learn't in the last 7 years" Ha Ha, just love it!!

Hi everyone

Just found this thread. I am a fifty something mum with an 11 year old daughter and I have 2 granddaughters, my OH is a few years younger. We are waiting to hear about a job offer he might have at the moment so not sure when we will be arriving, he may have to come over before me. We have a dog to bring too and he won't be able to fly out till September I think at the earliest because of the new rabies regulations. We are looking at settling SOR.

Bump bump.. Lets keep this thread on top

Well done cassy:wink:..i think this could be a thread which is helpful to many older Mums making the move..i have been very lucky to be a Mum of three now adult children & then many years later we had the lovely surprise of our fourth, who is our little Aussie..the experience of being an older Mum is very different in some ways to when i was younger, so it is good to share with others about it and the effect it may have when moving to another part of the world..bump bump...

Hi all mums, Nan's, grans or ladies.

I am pleased that this thread has brought quite a few older mums together or such like who perhaps have a maturer view of the world etc.

Unfortunately I can't join you out there and to say I'm dissapointed about my husbands final decision on this is an understatement. He was offered a job, which was a good offer but have to admit it would have been a bit of a stuggle initially until I had found work, it would have mean't taking on a longer term mortgage (I expected that myself for a house near the sea) and not having many funds left at the end of each week, but thats the thing, we couldn't work out how much we would have left, it was a bit of a guessing game.

It has taken me a few weeks to come back on Perth Poms and read updates because I am quite envious of you all who are out there or have plans in place to move to Perth. I know its not easy making friends in an unknown territory and making friends that you have something in common with but also has a similar sense of humour or just "gets you" takes time and sometimes energy to keep in touch and make those bonds.

Not sure how you re-name it into "The older mums thread" but think its a great idea for everyone to get to join in and that way someone could perhaps arrange a meet up -- or if not, just a chatting place? Perhaps I might even be one of the many older mums who keeps you up to date with the news from England, albeit scandle or any issues I could look into for you ( i could start it with the queues at the petrol pumps today, all because I think the tankers are going on strike at easter) Rest assured, Britain never changes......

It has been sunny and warm here this week with lovely spring days, daffi's out etc etc but it's about to change next week with potential snow, maybe thats why all the 4X4 drivers are filling their cars up.

From the recci we did I keep thinking back to beautiful places we went to in and around Perth and hope to return one day, but until then I'll just keep popping on here to keep in touch.....

Aw Pf i am sorry to hear that, as you do sound quite sad about it...these decisions are never easy, but hopefully you have made the right one for you & your family...is it something you could consider later on in time?..thank you anyway for starting this thread & i hope you pop in regularly to let us know how things are going for you:smile:...

Thought I would give this thread another bump. Looks like we will now be moving to Perth in September. Just put house back on the market to see if we have any luck selling it, if we don't we will rent it. Still not sure where we will settle but looking at areas between Mandurah and Perth.

I am looking at those areas too, i like south of the river. I have just got tenants for my house as the houses are moving so slow with silly offers still, hope you get your price and you manage to sell. I hope to move around that time also and the way the weather is today the sooner the better, it's freezing here.

We had our house on the market for a few years and took it off just before Christmas. We had made up our minds to rent and move in July, but got talking to this estate agent and they seem pretty confident they can sell it so thought we would give it a go. Plus our dog can't fly out until September. Awful weather here too (South Yorkshire) very wet and freezing and someone has told me that May isn't going to be any better. Roll on September.

If this weather doesn't change my OH's mind I don't know what will!! Loads of rain. No fear of a drout in the north of England, still chilly and very little sun around at the moment.

Good Luck with selling your house JAK, you have summer in England?? to look forward to - before Summer in OZ.

Thanks PF, we are keeping fingers crossed with the house. We have got our first viewing on Saturday and it isn't offically up for sale yet! Good luck to you too, you never know he might change his mind like mine did. How long have you got left on your visa?

Oh we didn't get as far as the VISA.

Went out on a recci in December and OH was considered for a job and a final salary offer was put forward to him (obviously dependant on visa etc) OH was chewing over the finances before we got around to applying for a VISA and he finally decided the salary wouldn't be enough. I would have been looking for a job a few months down the line but he thought with the prices of houses over there and cost of living that we wouldn't have enough to be able to afford the holidays that we have from here (and we like our holidays). But not only that, the amount he is putting into a pension now wont allow him to retire much earlier than 62, so he is estimating that he would have to be working until he is 67 in Oz. Neither of us relished that thought as I would be in my 70's and we would like to face retirement together and still see the rest of the world.

He looks into the finances and is ruled by his head, me on the other hand is ruled by my heart and push the important stuff (money)to one side.
