Guest Cup Cake
Hi All, I'm thinking of moving to Perth with my Husband and one year old son in the near future. We are Indian Sikhs and I was wondering if there is much of an Indian or Sikh community out there? I'm looking to keep some of the indian culture in the location we settle in so that when my Punjabi parents come over they will be able to socialise with similar faiths. Are there many Gurdwara's around? I would love to chat to anyone already out there!

kips
Hi All, I'm thinking of moving to Perth with my Husband and one year old son in the near future. I'm looking to keep some of the indian culture in the location we settle in so that when my Punjabi parents come over they will be able to socialise with similar faiths. Hi Cup Cake I am British with Gujarati parents and moved to Perth last September from Corindi Beach, NSW - 12km from Woolgoolga which has the largest Sikh community in Australia. There is a beautiful white Gurdwara on a hill on the Pacific Highway. I know Woolgoolga is on the East coast but would you consider moving there ? It's a beautiful part of the world with a spectacular coastline and lush banana plantations on steep hillsides. The Skih community are very well respected in the area and many have been there for generations and own banana plantations. They have a colourful parade through the streets every year to celebrate a Sikh festival and take part in the annual Curryfest. I loved going into Woolgoolga and seeming so many Indian faces, especially elderly Sikh men sitting on benches chatting away. Here in Baldivis there are very few non-white people. My best friend in Corindi Beach was a lovely Sikh lady who lived with her son and husband in my street. Her son is the same age as my son and they also became best friends. If you want to speak to her send me a private message with you contact details and I can put you in touch with her. I really miss her and her cooking. She makes the best pakoras, stuffed parathas and fresh methi parathas and used to bring us delicious ladoos made by the ladies from the temple. My English husband loved them.
