fifi69
Hehe v.bad timing on your part. We too arrived in winter, to wind and rain that could match the UK any day!! But hang in there cos it does get better. It does go dark early, more like 5.30pm at the mo, I've come to the conclusion it's the reason everyone goes to bed early! the sunsets are magical, it's been wonderful to head to the beach or river and watch them thru the summer. at the moment you need to be quick if you want to photograph it though. At the weekend we pulled into a car park, walked a short distance over a dune, but were too late. It's as if the sun just drops from the sky, rather than a gradual thing
Bibbs
What supprised me was the 50" TV we had in the UK that dominated the living room, is now so tiny we needed to buy a bigger one.
Give me a break!
What ? It's cold enough for gloves in winter.????? Tumble dryers ! Electric blankets , coats! Heaters! ????Changed my mind ! I'm not coming! cancel the flights and visas ! was only coming to escape winter now it looks like I will be doing two in a row because we arrive in June! Talk about bad planning! Dam and blast ! Why did no one tell me this before. .? Only kidding lol ! not looking forward to it being dark at 6.30 though, leaving 10pm mid June sunsets here will be hard. Why the hell didn't we migrate in October? We came out on the 30th of June. I'm my opinion it was the best time ever to emigrate here. It gives you time to acclimatise and the 18- 20c a day is perfect. You'll do fine and as for it getting dark early people tend to go to bed early and get up early here so it's not a problem. StraighttothePoint
How poor the sunsets are here in the metro area given the hype that surrounds them. If you come from Scotland, and are used to light nights up until nearly midnight in the summer months, with sunsets that take literally hours they are a huge disappointment. When you go down to the beach and get all settled you barely have time to open your bottle of wine before it is dark
Give me a break!
Is it nearly midnight before it gets dark in Scotands summer? I never knew that? Right down the other end 10pm was the very latest!

So very true and if your in a newer house you have the added bonus of a theatre room to snuggle down in the winter months

I can manage at least two glasses before it drops:biggrin: As for the traffic lights!! I can manage to eat a Subway sarnie waiting for the ones at the bottom of our road to change:mad:

Right down the other end 10pm was the very latest! Yeah in late June especially light nights can go forever given certain conditions. In Fife, where I go back to, there can be nights where it is only dark for 4 /5 hours. The further you go north, and near the top bits, midnight is very doable. In my youth I was based at Kinloss and loved the long nights. We used to have many a weekend in Norway or Iceland, sometimes in the year through perpetual night or day. When it's as dark as night at 2pm though it takes a special kind of person to manage it for longer than a few days.
