We're off to Manjimup tomorrow for Trout fishing then a night in a wood before going on to the Gloucester tree on Sunday so will let you all know how it goes.

Locally though I love Kings park. I'll never tire of that view over the city from the top of the hill and looking down and telling myself that I live here now - wow. There's so much in the park, it's just beautiful and the ride back to Freo with my son is epic.

I love the journey along the river into the city ... seeing the skyline ... I get the "i live here now feeling' then too

Me too. I like driving along the Freeway from the Canning Highway as it begins to snake along the water. The city seems still some distance away and then suddenly, you round the bend and there it is, sparkling in the sunlight. It's such a contrast to see the centre of commerce to your right and some dude on a jet-ski on your left, the river stretching out towards the ocean and Eliza in front of you.

Caversham Wildlife Park. Great family day out. Koalas up close, Kangaroo's up close, Wombat's, Snakes, Crocs, Camels, Possums, Milk the cows, Sheep shearing, sheep hearding with dogs, Horses, Buffalo, Birds of prey, Parrots etc etc. Demostrations and shows. Take food as pricey and not much food selection there. We had a great day out.

Also we went to THE TROTS last night and had another great evening. Loads for the kids to do. Face painting and dancing between races.Take a ground sheet and some food. Cant take alcohol in though. Soft drinks are ok. Betting on the horse drawn racing carts is a good fun. The horses cannot gallop only Trot...Hence THE TROTS. (We didnt have a winner all night!! I was good at picking the horse that came last though! Got that right 6 out of 10 races!! Try doing that again! lol.

We went to Adventure World yesterday (no kids, just 4 20 somethings!) and had a great time. It wasn't very busy so we got on all the slides and rides without having to queue. Ok it's not especially cheap at $49 for an adult, but for something to do that you wouldnt do in England we thought it was great! Finished off with some fish and chips at Cottesloe watching the sun go down.

Other day trips we've done have been up to Mundering, where we did a 4x4 trail and then went to the weir. A second vote for Whiteman Park to have a wander around and visit the motor museum, and on a separate occasion visited to go to Caversham Wildlife Park.

We also did Lancelin in a day trip - up to the 4x4 playground in the Pajero and then took some tracks down to Ledge Point for a picnic by the sea.

Rockingham - that's also good, we did Penguin Island one time and have been back a few more times to do some snorkelling by Peron Point (there is a snorkel trail there).

Rottnest Island - always great fun (especially taking the Megablast over from Freo!), we've been over a couple of times now, amazing snorkelling at Salmon Bay.

The Museum of WA in Northbridge has an excellent section on aboriginal history, that's worth a visit.

Fremantle Prison Tours are a must for anyone - excellent fun!

We've done a few overnight trips as well, Jurien Bay to swim with the sealions (best experience so far!), Margaret River a couple of times to visit the winerys, chocolate factories and brewerys. Bunker Bay was also great - the bay around there is picture perfect. Hamelin Bay is also like a postcard. There are caves and lighthouses to explore down there as well, we can't wait for our next trip back.

We've done more in our 10 months, but you're all probably bored of me now! :jiggy:

Ha! I hope we haven't spent that much!! Most of the time it's just the fuel getting to places, but we always have something planned on a weekend! We've bought 'Scoop Traveller' and the Lonely Planet (Scoop is better) and there is such a wealth of things to do in there and the pictures and maps help loads!

We've also done the Bussleton Jetty - very impressive!

Point Walter on the river is lovely for a picnic and a paddle/swim - we went to the free family concert there in March and it was lovely - great live music followed by fabulous skyworks

Coogee Beach Festival was great a couple of weekends ago - we got to see snakes, a koala and a wombat

We did Serpentine falls last Monday, which was a beautiful place for a picnic and just generally driving out Jarrahdale way is so pretty. We stopped at a Buddhist monastery which was lovely too and saw lots of roo's then went to have a cuppa at the cafe on the dam and were so lucky that they were having a family day and had a charity there that rescue's roos so we got to have cuddles with baby orphaned roos, which was superb!

Kings Park we love for the views and I went to see Ronan Keating there in February - it's such a lovely setting for a gig

Swan Valley is excellent too, for the vineyards we did wine/chocolate/coffee and beer tasting - that was a GOOD day out at very little cost too! Also went to Sandalford to watch Duran Duran which was another lovely setting for a gig

Freo, Freo, Freo - just for everything that is Freo!! I just think it has such a lovely vibe, we love it for shopping, eating, drinking, wandering around and meeting friends as there is always something happening there and it's just so relaxed and sitting on the jetty watching the spectacular West coast sunsets is something that I just know I will never tire of.....

My parents arrive this week so we are off to Margaret River for 5 days and hoping to take in Augusta too so it's good to know that it's a great place to visit! We are also going to the races with them at the end of the month at Ascot, so again I will let you know how that goes.

Love, love, LOVE this thread as you have given me lots of new ideas of things to do with my parents, we had already planned to do the prison with them in Freo and wondered if the night tour is suitable for them as they are in their 70's? We also planned to take them to Yanchep park so it's good to know that they are recommended.

Please feel free to suggest more things please as they are here for 4 weeks so I want to make sure they have a great time! Thanks

Oh yeah, forgot about this one, it is excellent. They do a night tour and a tour of the tunnels and underground rivers which sounds pretty spooky.

Well Manjimup was superb. Despite my best efforts there were no trout biting but the mozzies had a good feed on me. It was the first time I've been alone in the bush and I got so into the fishing night fell before I realised and I had to walk back through the wood alone in the dark. All I could think about was the film Wolf Creek!

There were some terrifying noises, I mean real spine tingling stuff and there was definitely a lot of movement around me in the dark. I had to walk over this wooden bridge that spanned the lake and there were bats or something whizzing around my head and things in the water below splashing around. As I reached the other bank, from the wood behind me came a sound that almost made me drop everything and run. It was like a rasping scream and then a really heavy, deep panting noise.

It was pitch dark but the sky was like no other - literally billions of stars. Our cabin lights were the only thing to guide me back but about halfway my wife closed the curtains and I had nothing to guide me back (clearly she wasn't bothered about me!)

In the morning I spoke to the farmers wife and she said the scream was the Barking Owl and the low, gruff panting was probably just one of their sheep with a bit of a cough. The explanations made my terrifying walk sound pretty pathetic.

It was a night I'm unlikely ever to repeat (certainly out of choice).

The area is spectacular, incredibly beautiful and there's just so much to do. I managed to climb about 15 feet up the tree but that was enough for me; the bravery pill wore off pretty quickly.

We filled the boot with wine (great value), and had a very interesting tour at Salitage, thanks guys.

I'll upload some photos to the gallery but really recommend a trip around the area if anyone's stuck for a weekend away.

I absolutely love it down there. We go every September to a place called Nyamup which is about 20 minutes SW of Manjimup. Old cottages at a timber mill converted. Great if you go down as a group, camp fires and kids can ride their bikes around the village. Truffle farm, lots of wineries and not too far to Pemberton which is another little gem with more stuff to do. Glad you enjoyed.

Whiteman Park - is our current favorite place to visit at the moment, we went up there on Sunday and had a lovely day playing footy and cricket, had a bbq by the mussel pool, then took the kids to the village for a play in the splash pool - finished off with an ice-cream. Perfect :-D
